DAVID MARCUS: We’re choking on your idiocy Mr. Trudeau and greenwashing can’t mask the truth

While millions of Americans saw a pall of eerie orange smoke descend on the Northeast Coast this week, Democrats saw green.

The Green New Deal.

Led by their northern broth-out-anotha-motha liberal, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, environmental alarmists saw an opportunity.

In the immortal (immoral) words of the great Chicago poet-politician Rahm Emanuel, “Never waste a crisis.”

No sooner had the soot from raging wildfires drifted from the Great White North to New York City than those on the left pounded their chests and begged us that this was a sign from Mother Nature.

“Canadians know that fighting climate change is necessary… to avoid the catastrophic and costly losses faced by Canadians,” the Prime Minister bleated.

With the smoke, the idiocy drifted south.

Vice President Kamala Harris clutched at her pearls and said millions were suffering from appalling air quality that was “worsening because of the climate crisis.”

And of course Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez took to Twitter to bang the drum and tout the hashtag Green New Deal.

No really. She typed, “#GreenNewDeal.”

Okay, do you want to get serious? Let’s get serious.

Clearly, a warming planet is fueling massive wildfires that are getting bigger and hotter — and it’s likely that human-induced climate change is part of the problem.

But there isn’t a single plank in the green platform that will fix this mess over the next four or five decades as we wait for rising temperatures to abate — if at all.

Net Zero by 2050 is little comfort to the millions of people in Gotham, who are choking their way to work in a face mask that at least this time serves a purpose.

Electric buses and wind energy will not restore missed school days or ease the breathing of asthmatics in 10 years.

What Captain Planet of Ottawa and the rest of the Blame Climate Change Squad don’t want you to know is that there is now a solution. And it’s one that our inept, self-proclaimed saviors have ignored.

For years Canadian park officials have warned that their country is not doing enough to clear its forests and now we are witnessing the catastrophic consequences.

It’s actually very simple. Edward Struzik, author of ‘Dark Days at Noon, The Future of Fire’ explains it well.

“We’ve suppressed fires in North America for so many decades that we have forests that are older than they should be,” he said. “We have dead and dying trees that are more vulnerable to rising temperatures.”

“Prescribed burns are one of the best ways to reduce the threat of wildfires,” he added.

Did you hear that? We shouldn’t wait until we all drive flying cars powered by unicorn farts to be smoke free.

Prescribed burns, instituted by professional forest managers, clean up the propellants for these massive community-destroying, city-suffocating fires, but apparently that’s not happening.

Mark Heathcott, who managed controlled burns for Canada’s national parks services for 23 years, said back in 2016 that “a lot of lip service is paid to [the practice] few agencies do it.’

Study Exhibit A.

Parks Canada had 23 controlled burns in their forests this year. In 2019, the United States had 150,000. That arithmetic looks pretty awful to Trudeau.

If the wimpy Canadian Prime Minister spent a fraction of the time he spends grooming his hair tending to overgrown forests, Philadelphia might have been visible today.

But Trudeau won’t even begin to discuss the need for controlled burns, much less his lack of support for them.

Governments can also invest in smart planning, such as: don’t build your dream house in a hot, dry forest, or don’t drain all your wetlands.

So why isn’t this happening?

Struzik answers that too. “Much of that investment disappeared in the 1990s and has only recovered incrementally… Business as usual will not be enough to meet the severity of the new wildfire threat.”

It’s a story as old as the left. Workable solutions that can be applied immediately have no hold in the exalted left-wing world view.

If the foppish Canadian prime minister spent a fraction of the time he spends grooming his hair tending to overgrown forests, Philadelphia would have been visible today.

It’s the same maniacal zeal that soothes their consciences as African children mine rare earths for their eco-friendly Teslas and solar panels.

It’s the same blinders that enable them to shun nuclear power while shutting down gas plants.

In the end it is cowardice.

Trudeau knows that if he blames the bogeyman for climate change, he cannot possibly be held responsible for his ineptitude. AOC knows that as long as she keeps people terrified of impending doom, she has a perfect excuse to transform America into her vision of a socialist utopia.

But like so many of the lectures that pretend to be answers that progressives preach, none of these speeches do the slightest bit to solve the problems we now have.

The far left would have you believe that they can solve anything with the wave of their wand. But there’s no magic moment when Greta Thunberg gets to play football, turns to the camera and yells, “I’m going to Disney World.”

Enough is enough. The American and Canadian people need effective forestry, including much more controlled burns, not rants about the climate apocalypse.

You have the means, Prime Minister.

Spare us the drama.

Grab a chainsaw and light the match.
