Talk show legend David Letterman still can’t believe that U2 frontman Bono and guitarist The Edge wrote a song for him while filming their Disney+ rock documentary A Sort of Homecoming.
The five-time Emmy winner, who turns 76 next month, launched into access to hollywood on Wednesday: ‘I’m still processing it, because most of the songs written about me start with ‘Hey dummy**!’ So this was an unusual experience.
David made a giddy reunion with the Irish 62-year-old and the British-born, Irish-raised 61-year-old as they coordinated in black and gray formal attire at the film’s premiere at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles.
Bono (born Paul David Hewson) wore his trademark sunglasses due to glaucoma, while The Edge (born David Howell Evans) wore his signature black beanie for movie festivities.
Letterman called the 22-time Grammy winners “nice, decent, well-rounded people” and said it was “a pleasure” to visit their hometown of Dublin to see the film.

“A standup comedian like Dave could understand what it’s all about and unravel the mystery of U2,” mused The Edge.
The film Bono & The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming with Dave Letterman from Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville opens March 17 on Disney+.
In it, members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, who have sold 170 million records worldwide, reflect on their 47-year journey as musicians and friends while performing in concert.
U2, which also features bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr., will soon release Songs of Surrender, an album of 40 re-recorded and reinterpreted songs from the group’s back catalogue, hitting stores on March 17.
In the fall, the entire band (minus Mullen) will perform a limited concert engagement in Las Vegas called U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere in honor of the grand opening of MSG Sphere at The Venetian.
