David ‘Kochie’ Koch’s wife, Libby, has revealed the real reason why the TV star decided to leave Sunrise after hosting the morning show for 21 years.

Libby Koch, who appeared on Channel Seven’s breakfast program on Thursday, said it is very sad to see her husband hang up his presenting hat, but now is the right time.

Libby, who shares four adult children with Kochie, explained that it became more difficult for her husband to put everything into his TV appearance while also spending time with his children and grandchildren.

After noticing how tired he was, she sat him down to chat and they decided it was time for him to leave his beloved television gig.

“As much as he loved Sunrise, he realized it’s time to start cutting back and we talked about that together, he got very tired,” she said on Sunrise.

David ‘Kochie’ Koch’s wife, Libby, has revealed the real reason why the TV star decided to leave Sunrise after hosting the morning show for 21 years.

“It’s really, really sad (to see him go) but then it gets exciting, but I’m never very good at saying goodbye.”

It was an emotional morning on the set of Sunrise on Thursday a montage of Kochie’s best moments played before Libby surprised her husband with the sweet message.

Libby said she is most proud of her husband because despite his busy job, he always made time for her and their four children.

In the interview, Libby reflected on her husband’s exciting career, and how she was with him every step of the way, for the good or the bad (both pictured).

“Dave had a great role model in his dad Dean and that’s what he copied with our kids, no matter if he was tired, the weekend was family time and he’s carried on as he did by putting family first, even though he did have a big performance on Sunrise and people know him,” she explained.

“The fact that he worked hard to just wrap up (Sunrise) and then have the weekend as family time. I think his father would be very proud of that.’

Libby also reminisced about his exciting career and reflected on the times she was by his side, through good times and bad.

“When he introduced his joke of the day, there was a lot of backlash from certain industries about the brutal things he would say,” she said.

“But then the viewers really started to respond and he was very relaxed in his style, often putting his foot in it.

“Viewers react to that because they quickly realized he’s just an ordinary guy.”

Libby was most proud of the fact that her husband had a spectacular and busy career, yet always made time for her and their four children (both pictured with their grandchildren).

Libby said she was also very proud of her husband’s coverage of the 2006 Beaconsfield mining disaster.

A minor earthquake caused a tunnel in Tasmania to collapse, tragically killing miner Larry Knight and trapping miners Brant Webb and Todd Russell.

When Brant and Todd turned out to be alive on the sixth day, Kochie and Melissa Doyle reported to the sidelines until they were rescued underground after 14 days.

“What I was really proud of that viewers didn’t know is that he and Mel would go to Todd Russell’s and his wife’s parents and sit down and have a cup of tea and eat and talk to the kids,” she said. .
