The star began her career with her album White Ladder, which was originally released in 1999 but failed to chart.

After a re-release on ATO Records, the record finally rose to number one in 2001 and spent three years in the UK Top 100.

That year he also received three BRIT Award nominations; British Male Solo Artist, British Album of the Year and British Single of the Year and a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.

David has since released eight more albums, most recently Skellig in 2021, and earlier this year embarked on a tour to promote the record.

In the 24 years since Babylon was released, David has continued to tour the world, last year playing shows in Australia and New Zealand.

In 2020, David reflected on the success of his White Ladder album in an interview with Forbessaying: ‘It reveals an image of the late twenties and being a bit lost in the city.

“The youthful momentum is gone, and now it’s a reckoning with life as to what to do with the rest.

‘And there’s an emotional core to a relationship, and how difficult they are. He had already been married for quite a few years at this point, so there is a lot of doubt, but there is also optimism.

Noting how much his career had plateaued before the White Ladder catapulted him to stardom, he said The Guardian: ‘When I got to my third album, it was a Spinal Tap-style disaster. At one concert, the sign outside read: ‘Sold Out BBQ Ribs, David Gray 9:00 PM’.

In January, David also confirmed that he was back to work on new music, writing on Instagram: “Last week marked a welcome return to the discipline of writing and recording after a good couple of months out of the studio.

‘New music keeps flowing. Officially excited! Also savoring every walk to clear your brain in the cold, clean air and all the while feeding on the light that increases your gains as the days lengthen.
