David de Gea is NOT on Man United’s end-of-season retained list, with talks still ‘open’ with the unsigned goalkeeper over a new deal to stay
David De Gea has been omitted from Manchester United’s official list as talks over a new contract are still ongoing.
United sent them to the Premier League and De Gea was the conspicuous absentee.
“As far as the goalkeeping department is concerned, talks remain open with David De Gea over a possible new contract, while Tom Heaton and Nathan Bishop have had their deal extensions activated,” United wrote.
De Gea has agreed a new contract with Manchester United, but it has yet to be signed by the club’s hierarchy.
The proposed new deal would cut his current salary of £375,000 a week and it remains to be seen whether United will still try to land a new number 1 if he stays.
The 32-year-old Spanish goalkeeper has been playing for United since 2011, but is transfer-free on June 30.
He’s had a season in which he won the Golden Glove for most Premier League clean sheets, but his campaign has been marred by a number of costly individual mistakes.
Manager Erik ten Hag said in a speech last month: ‘I think we want him to stay and he wants to stay, so I think we will find each other.
“I never comment on how the negotiations are going.”
As announced last month, centre-back Phil Jones is leaving after 12 years and 229 appearances for United, while defender Axel Tuanzebe is leaving after making 37 appearances for the club.
