David Crosby reveals how he helped Drew Barrymore recover from drug addiction in a new interview following the rocker’s death at 81.
The late rock legend David Crosby revealed that he shared a very special relationship with Drew Barrymore in an interview that recently resurfaced after his death at age 81.
The Crosby, Stills and Nash band member passed away on January 18 after a long battle with an undisclosed illness.
Now that he’s gone, people remember the kindness displayed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, including the help he and his wife, Jan Dance, gave the ET actress, 47, during a vulnerable moment of his life.
Special Relationship: Rocker David Crosby shared a very special relationship with Drew Barrymore. In a recently renewed interview, the rocker explained how he and his wife helped Drew Barrymore recover from addiction when he was a teenager.
In a June 2021 appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the Teach Your Children singer shared how Drew lived with him and his wife for two months while recovering from addiction.
We knew her because we were in recovery at the time. We went to meetings probably three times a week and totally sober,” explained the Grammy winner.
“She was at a facility that was run by a friend of ours, and they said, ‘Oh shit. Her insurance is going to run out. We’re going to have to kick her out. And she’s not ready.” . She needs a safe place to go.”

Always there: Drew, now 47 and in good health, became addicted to cocaine at 12 and attempted suicide at 14. She spoke warmly of David and Jan in her memoir Little Girl Lost, writing: “They were always there for me”, seen in September in New York
David and Jan became surrogate parents for the teen actress: ‘We took her to school in the morning and tried to be a good influence. I think we were kind and loving, and she felt good to do it.’
Expressing how difficult recovery can be, he said: ‘You try to do things and you’re not sure how it’s going to work. I think one worked. I think he became a responsible human being and he’s a good person.’
Drew had become addicted to cocaine at age 12 and attempted suicide at 14. She had been legally emancipated from her parents when she met the rocker and his wife.
