David Campbell reveals his one major concern about raising children: ‘I’m constantly afraid of this’

David Campbell has revealed that his biggest fear for his children is the impact social media will have on them.

The father of three, 49, spoke Nine honey this week about his concerns.

‘It is difficult. I am constantly afraid of this,” the TV star said, adding that he was worried about giving his son a phone.

“There’s the horror of being a parent knowing the whole world is online and we all know online is a horrible place,” he added.

“You don’t want them to lose their innocence too soon.”

David is a father to son Leo, 12, and twins Betty and Billy, eight, who he shares with his wife of 15 years, Lisa Hewitt.

The TV presenter celebrated a milestone in April and shared a rare photo on Instagram.

“Nine years sober this week. I was in Broome with my wife and son (pre-twins). This happy picture of me is from when I made the decision. I’m still happy,” he wrote.

“As if a weight has been lifted from my shoulders (and liver). Stay strong. Get help if you’re having a hard time.’

David has spoken openly about his battle with alcohol in the past and admitted that while he wasn’t an addict, it was a slippery slope.

‘I was part of our ‘boozy culture’. Was I an alcoholic? No. Did I tend to become one? Yes. Very much,” he wrote in an April 2015 editorial for The Daily Telegraph.

“There is addiction on both sides of my family and I was standing in the doorway of a very dark room.”

“My father has, you could say, a reputation as the hardest partying rock star Australia has produced,” he wrote.

As he told me on the phone today, “I should have put you off the booze.” But it didn’t. It had more or less the opposite effect.’

For his eight year sober anniversary in April 2022, David tweeted that getting sober was the “best decision I made”
