David Bowie and Iman’s daughter Lexi Jones is following in her talented parents’ footsteps
When David Bowie tragically died of liver cancer in January 2016, he was survived by his wife, supermodel Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid, and two children.
His son Duncan Jones, also known as Zowie Bowie, came from the rock star’s first marriage to Angie Bowie.
But his daughter Alexandria Zahra ‘Lexi’ Jones, the daughter of David Bowie and Iman, was only 15 when her father passed away.
Seven years after the death of the trailblazing musician, Lexi is following in her father’s footsteps and making music herself, while also following her mother’s footsteps and dipping her toes into the world of modelling.
Lexi, now 22, lives in LA where she makes music and art, and she seems to be very close to her mother. She’s also about to launch a new art project – with her mom as her number one fan.

During the pandemic, 67-year-old Iman revealed that her daughter had helped her become more body-positive while they were cooped up together.
The supermodel said that after complaining to Lexi about her eight-pound pandemic weight gain and how she no longer fits in her pants, her daughter simply told her to “buy a bigger pair.”
Iman shared the anecdote with People in 2021, saying women shouldn’t “make a big deal out of not fitting into skinny jeans.”
She added, “You’re not 20 years old. Buy one size bigger. How about that?’
Despite the pressure regarding physical appearance that many models experience, the Somali beauty shared that she has tried to protect her daughter from any negative self-image.

The aspiring artist (pictured) has been credited by her mother Iman for helping her with body confidence
Earlier this year, Lexi shared a video of herself as a schoolgirl learning to play the piano with her father when he was alive, marking the seventh anniversary of his death from liver cancer
In the same interview, Iman revealed that she never discussed her own body image with her daughter when she was growing up. She believes this is why Lexi now has such a positive attitude about weight.
Speak against British Vogue earlier this year, Iman discussed the difficulties of mourning Bowie after his death, given that he was one of the most famous musicians to have ever lived.
She told the magazine, “It was too much. Too many. We lived very private lives and suddenly it felt like there was a target on my and my daughter’s head.
“It got to the point where we had to leave our house [in New York City] because the public was always at the door.’
Despite the difficulties she faced, Iman managed to keep Lexi’s childhood somewhat private, until she reached puberty and decided to share snippets of her life with fans on social media.
Now Lexi has over 200,000 followers on Instagram and shares her projects in both music and art with them.
Lexi shared a photo of herself with her mother and two other women where she penned a cryptic post suggesting she didn’t feel she was like the other women in the photo in a clear reference to her mixed heritage
She has a Depop page where she sells paintings and prints she’s created – some of which look Ziggy Stardust-inspired with their space themes.
A print of a painting she made, which sold for $270 on the platform last year, was titled, “Taste the gaybow: Kayler bisexual alien with a bomb-ass body.”
As she begins to find her footing in the world, Lexi often posts on Instagram about her family, including tributes to her father.
Earlier this year, to mark the seven-year anniversary of his death, the 22-year-old posted a video of herself sitting on Bowie’s lap and playing the piano with him while she was a schoolgirl.
She captioned the video, “7 years ago today. I miss you.’
Lexi has also posted cryptic messages that seem to hint at her identity as she uses Instagram to express herself.
Accompanying a recent photo of herself as a child next to her mother and two other women, she captioned, “One of these things is not like the other.”
Reactions from fans commenting on the photo seemed to suggest that the caption refers to the fact that Lexi is of mixed race, from a Somalia-born mother and a white British father.
One person commented, “One of these things is the best of both worlds” with a heart emoji.
Another said, “How can you not fit in, this is who you are, your family that god gave you the honor to be a part of.”
A third said, “Lexi born of love… the morning sun and the ebony of the starry night… fused by love.”
Despite perhaps struggling with her identity, the bond between Lexi and her mother is strong, as she often pays tribute to her on Instagram.
In 2021, she posted a throwback snap in sepia tones of herself and Iman, simply writing the caption, “Appreciation to my mutha. I love you very much.’
Iman often reciprocates the love to her daughter and has posted sweet tributes to Lexi on her own Instagram account.
Earlier, she wished her daughter a happy birthday and called her “my heart, my pride, my love, my angel, my Lexi.”
The international supermodel also recently shared a post promoting Lexi’s mysterious upcoming art project and encouraging others to sign up for updates.
Iman posted the image for the 22-year-old’s art site on Instagram, writing: “So proud of my daughter Lexi on her new upcoming venture…
“It takes courage to create something unique and share it with the world, but, little girl, you’ve got what it takes!”
