David Beckham accidentally found himself in hot water on Wednesday, and it had nothing to do with the luxury coffee blender he plugs into a new ad.

The former Manchester United and England midfielder has been signed as the face of Ninja kitchen appliances, but a new advert has left viewers buzzing about the popular brand.

In the festive 30-second advert, Beckham, 49, must arrange Christmas dinner on his own with no time to spare – a near-impossible task that he manages alone with the help of his handy Ninja devices.

But its use of a wood-fired oven, worth £350 and designed mainly for outdoor use, has led to the brand being reported to the Advertising Standards Authority.

The guidelines from Ninja’s own owner’s manual state: ‘DO NOT use indoors. When used under a cover, toxic fumes, including carbon monoxide, can accumulate and cause serious personal injury or death.”

Beckham’s deal with Ninja – the latest in a series of lucrative endorsements – was announced in May and is said to be worth £1 million.

The former footballer developed a passion for cooking while playing in continental Europe with Real Madrid, AC Milan and Paris Saint Germain.

Close family friend Eva Longoria previously called Beckham ‘a great cook’ after he gave her tips on making a traditional shepherd’s pie.

She told the Table Manners podcast: ‘David is a great chef. He didn’t teach me, but he told me the trick is ketchup.”

She added: ‘He’s a good Bolognese. He really enjoys cooking, you can see that on his Instagram.’

The Ninja controversy seemed forgotten on Tuesday evening as Beckham, accompanied by his wife Victoria, attended his first-ever state banquet at Buckingham Palace.

The Beckham’s, whose invitation was kept secret until the event started, joined King Charles, Queen Camilla and the Prince of Wales for the glittering event held for the Emir of Qatar, his wife and their delegation.

Watching the palace at home, the former England captain calmly shook his fashion designer wife, 50, a reassuring hand when she appeared nervous as she walked through the East Gallery surrounded by royals and dignitaries.

It is understood Beckham was invited to the lavish dinner due to his role as ambassador for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

There was a touching moment when the beaming ex-footballer walked confidently through the galleries of Buckingham Palace and lent his wife a supportive hand as she appeared to ask him for help.

While Beckham took on the role of his wife’s knight in shining armor last night, his invitation to the palace once again raises questions about whether he has paved his path to a knighthood.

Beckham has attended several royal events in the past, including his investiture with an OBE in 2017 and the Queen’s Young Leader event in 2018, but this was his first ever state banquet.

In June, the former Manchester United winger also became an ambassador for The King’s Foundation – a role he said he was ‘honoured’ to take on.

This year, Beckham met with the King about their shared passion for beekeeping and helped Prince William raise money for the London Air Ambulance.
