David Beckham packs on the PDA with bikini-clad Victoria in snaps from their honeymoon at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s mansion as he reveals Alex Ferguson FORCED him to cut the trip short

David Beckham has revealed he was forced to cut short his honeymoon with wife Victoria shortly after Sir Alex Ferguson dragged him back to training.

The footballer, 48, married Victoria, 49, at Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland on July 4, 1999, before the couple headed to the south of France.

Speaking about the journey with his docuseries BECKHAM, David said: ‘We had a short honeymoon. We ended up at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s house in the south of France – I have no idea how we got there!’

The couple looked more in love than ever in the sweet snaps from the trip, as the pair kissed in the ocean and cuddled together in their swimwear.

Yet they crashed back to reality with a bang, with David explaining: ‘We were supposed to be there for ten days but the manager called me after about five days and said, ‘I need you back in training. ‘

David and Sir Alex had a famously difficult relationship and Gary Neville confirmed: ‘Calling David up five days after his wedding is classic for Sir Alex Ferguson. “Get back here, you flash b*****d.

‘Sir Alex Ferguson had an uncanny habit of bringing you back down to earth.’

In the docuseries, Manchester United legends revealed that David and Victoria Beckham’s relationship used to ‘p***’ Sir Alex.

Because they were both high-profile celebrities before dating, Posh and Becks generated extreme levels of publicity and media attention, and it is claimed that this angered Ferguson during the early stages of their relationship.

The manager believed that David’s relationship with Victoria ‘changed’ him as a footballer, as he was more focused on his celebrity status than his efforts on the pitch for Manchester United.

Former teammate Paul Scholes said: “His relationship with Victoria let the manager down. He thought it affected his football.”

Meanwhile, fellow Red Devils icon Paul Ince revealed that Sir Alex did background checks on his players’ love lives because he wanted them to have a ‘stable’ relationship.

‘Sir Alex liked that you were stable. He looked at your background. I didn’t want you partying every night,” he said.

When asked about their relationship, Sir Alex admitted: ‘He’s changed, there’s no doubt about that – and all the media and celebrity attention wasn’t what I wanted.’

Elsewhere in the documentary, David’s friends and loved ones recalled their shock at the extreme lengths the Manchester United player would go to to spend time with Victoria when they first started dating.

The couple’s intense and conflicting schedule – with David training in football in Manchester and Victoria touring the world with The Spice Girls – meant they rarely had free time together.

Yet David wasn’t deterred from doing all he could to meet during their early courtship in 1997, with the sportsman confessing: ‘I didn’t care when I saw her, how much I saw her.

“If it was me who drove to London to see her for seven minutes, I did it!”

He added: “I loved everything about Victoria. I didn’t know she was the strong woman she was and I like that. I don’t know if it was because I wanted her to take care of me… She’s a strong, strong woman. But she can be difficult!’

Victoria was impressed by his grand gestures and recalled: ‘I was on tour but the hard part was not knowing when I would see him.

“He would go out of his way to spend time with me, he would sometimes charter a small plane, like a two-seater plane, he would literally come over for a few hours and then go back.”

But while the pair only had eyes for each other, those on the outside were concerned about the impact this was having on the footballer and his career.

Fellow Manchester United player Gary, 48, explained: ‘How long he went to see Victoria, it was a lot. He was like an addict! He would drive four hours to spend twenty minutes with her.

“He was on the phone with Victoria every second and stayed on the line until one in the morning.”

David’s mother Sandra, 74, was also concerned and revealed she was intercepting calls between the pair in a bid to avoid David being distracted.

She recalled: ‘Victoria would be away and we were staying at David’s house and at three in the morning the phone rang.

“He had a game on, so I picked up the phone and said, ‘He’s in bed, sleeping,’ and they wanted to talk. But being a protective mom, I thought, “You really shouldn’t be calling in the morning this time.”

‘But how can you tell them? They are adults. I was afraid he was going to lose everything he had worked for because football came first, and suddenly that wasn’t the case anymore.”

The famous couple, who met in 1997 after Posh Spice attended one of his Manchester United matches with Mel C, got engaged a year later and married in 1999.

Their wedding was a fanfare, with OK! magazine which paid £1 million for the photography rights.

David shared clips from his big day in the docu-series, laughing at his decision to have their guests wear black and white while he and Victoria wore flashy purple ensembles.

While Gary described the wedding as ‘a spectacle’, David mused: ‘I’m trying to think back to the moment I decided to wear a purple suit and I don’t know when that happened…

“I think I just took over from Victoria, but what were we thinking?!”

With no regrets on her part, Victoria joked, “It was fun! We didn’t worry about what people would say.’

She continued, “I mean Christ, how beautiful to be like that when you just don’t really care, you just want to express yourself,” but she did confess, “I don’t know where the thrones came from,” as she referenced the gold chairs on which she and David posed.

Fans also got a glimpse of his best man Gary’s very rude wedding speech, in which he referenced the Spice Girls’ sex life.

He joked: ‘David said that the Spice Girls had requested the Bayern Munich team to be there today and David was surprised by this request and asked why.

‘The Spice Girls replied that they would like to meet men who can stay at the top for 90 minutes and still come in second!’
