David Beckham admitted he wasn’t a fan of his hit Netflix documentary after his first watch of the series.

The Netflix series ‘Beckham’, which launched last October, provides a detailed look at the Manchester United icon’s career both on and off the pitch and focuses heavily on his relationship with Spice Girls singer Victoria Beckham.

However, it took more than one watch for the football legend to enjoy the series, with his wife Victoria playing a major role in changing his mind.

“I was going to watch it one morning, just on a big screen and just take notes,” Beckham explained during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday night.

‘That morning I really didn’t like it. I didn’t like watching it.’

After the docuseries flopped at Beckham’s own box office, he decided he needed his wife’s expert opinion.

“I was planning on having my wife watch it for the first time at the premiere, but I had to change that and have her watch it with me that night,” he continued.

“We sat in bed with an iPad and watched two hours of rough editing. We got to the end and we looked at each other and we were so emotional. We laughed, we cried, we were tired because we had done so much in those 27 years.

“That was really the moment where I fell in love with the documentary, because I knew she loved it and that meant more to me.”

Beckham also revealed that he was initially approached about filming a documentary when he first retired in May 2013, but explained that he was not ready to think about his career at the time.

Instead, he opted to wait until 2023 to release the series to commemorate the tenth anniversary of his decision to hang up his boots.

The four-part documentary gave an intimate insight into the high-profile couple’s marriage and early romance, their family life, Beckham’s affair with Rebecca Loos and charted his football career.

The famous couple, who met in 1997 after ‘Posh Spice’ attended one of his Manchester United matches with Mel C, announced to the public that they were engaged a year later and have been married since July 1999.
