David Beckham brings son Romeo to St. Andrew’s as he joins close friend Tom Brady in the stands for Birmingham City’s League One clash with Wrexham FC

The NFL had bragging rights to Hollywood’s best players Monday night — at least in a sense — and David Beckham was there to watch the game.

The former Manchester United and England midfielder was joined by his son Romeo for an appearance at St Andrew’s as home side Birmingham City took on Wrexham in a fiercely contested League One clash.

Beckham, 49, was on hand to support legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady, whose minority stake and role as chairman of a new advisory board at Birmingham was confirmed in 2023.

And his appearance in the stands alongside the 47-year-old Brady, with whom he has a close friendship, seemed to work his magic on the pitch as the home side beat the team of Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the team who co-own Wrexham, 3-1.

While Reynolds missed Monday’s match, actor and producer McElhenney, 47, watched a poor performance from his Welsh club after flying back to the UK shortly after the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

Beckham arrived alongside 22-year-old Romeo, whose fleeting football career ended last month after brief spells at MLS Next Pro franchise Inter Miami II and Premier League club Brentford.

Brady was in good spirits as he was jeered by the travelling Wrexham supporters.

The NFL legend gave a thumbs up as fans chanted, “Who the f***ing hell are you?”

Stansfield was Birmingham City’s superhero after the striker, the most expensive player in League One at £20million after the Blues broke the transfer record, scored twice to move level with leaders Wrexham.

The division’s record signing levelled the score for the home side in the 22nd minute when he reacted quickest to collect a loose ball in the penalty area, before turning the tide with his superb header in the 52nd minute.

That came after Jack Marriott put Wrexham ahead with a blocked effort after just three minutes, with Tomoki Iwata completing the scoring with a stunning strike from 25 yards in the 59th minute.

Birmingham captain Krystian Bielik was sent off in the 86th minute after receiving two yellow cards in the space of five minutes. The Blues held on to move jointly to the top of the table.

Wrexham remain top on goal difference despite suffering their first defeat of the season, while second-placed Birmingham have also played a game less.

The match was the first competitive clash between the two clubs in 29 years. A pre-match light show added to the atmosphere at St Andrew’s as the division’s two title favourites squared off against each other, with stars including Beckham, Tom Wagner and McElhenney in attendance.

He joined alongside Romeo, whose fleeting football career came to an end last month after short spells at Inter Miami II and Brentford

Brady later thanked Beckham for ‘teaching’ him colourful terrace songs after the lively gathering at St Andrew’s.

He wrote on Instagram: ‘Thank you for teaching me how to sing at a football match @davidbeckham I can’t repeat most of what was said.’

McElhenney had already confirmed Beckham’s unexpected arrival to his social media followers last weekend.

“Straight after the Emmys I’m getting on a plane and flying to Birmingham, England to watch Wrexham play Tom Brady’s team, Birmingham City,” he told his Instagram followers.

‘”We’re not legally allowed to bet on the games, but we’re having fun, we’ve got social media and stuff. I’m going with him and I believe Mr David Beckham will be there too – we’ll have a good time.”
