David Beckham-backed online gaming group Guild Esports is closing a Sky TV deal
Shares in an online gaming group co-owned by David Beckham soared after it signed a new deal with Sky.
Guild Esports, whose teams of video game professionals compete for money against rivals, has appointed Sky Glass as its official television partner.
Sky Glass is Sky’s streaming TV service that doesn’t require a satellite dish.
Result: Former England and Manchester United captain David Beckham (pictured) has a stake in Guild Esports worth around £185,000
In addition to the new deal – which will see Guild receive increased sponsorship fees for the second and third years of the existing agreement – Sky will invest a six-figure sum in the renovation of the Sky Guild Gaming Centre, where the company is based in East London.
Shares in Guild Esports rose 11.1 percent, or 0.08p, to 0.75p.
That gave the company a value of £4.7m – with former England and Manchester United captain Beckham’s stake of almost 4 per cent worth around £185,000.
Boss Jasmine Skee said: “Since first working with Sky in September 2022, our relationship has blossomed.
“With our shared vision and commitment to esports excellence, we are setting the gold standard for esports partnerships.”
