Dave Portnoy taunts Angel Reese as Chicago Sky lose SEVENTH straight WNBA game to leave playoff place at growing risk

Dave Portnoy reiterated his attacks on Angel Reese as the Chicago Sky were defeated 71-90 by the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA on Tuesday night, marking the team’s seventh straight loss.

Reese scored a team-high 12 points that night, but the 19-point loss leaves her Sky team with a lot of work to do to make the WNBA playoffs battle increasingly dangerous.

Chicago is in last place, at eight, but its 11-22 season record is equal to that of the Atlanta Dream, who are in ninth place. Fortunately for Reese and her team, the Dream also lost to the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday night.

Barstool Sports owner Portnoy is an avid Caitlin Clark fan and has frequently criticized Reese for her rivalry with the Indiana Fever star. And with the Sky trailing 31-47 at halftime in Vegas, Portnoy took every opportunity to celebrate Reese’s struggles.

“Angel takes off in the 2nd half against Vegas,” Portnoy wrote sarcastically. “Down by 20 at halftime. She has 5 points, 1/5 from the field (20%), 8 rebounds.

“It’s (sic) officially Angel time. She goes into demon mode in situations like this.”

In addition to 12 points, Reese also grabbed 16 rebounds and dished out three assists in 31 minutes in Vegas.

Reese has been mentioned all season as Clark’s biggest rival for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award this season, something Portnoy has repeatedly denied.

Portnoy even bet $100,000 on the Indiana Fever winning the WNBA title thanks to Clark’s impact on the team. If the bet goes through, Portnoy would earn $10 million.

Clark and the Indiana Fever, who are 17-16 this season, return to action on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Sparks.

And the Sparks are the next opponent for Reese and Sky on Friday night in Los Angeles.

The Sparks have the worst record in the WNBA at 7-25, but with Chicago seemingly in free fall, it won’t be an easy game for Reese and her team to get back on a winning track.

“This league is so good that if you take a loss in your stride, you’re not good enough for the next game,” Dana Evans, Reese’s teammate, said after the game. Reese did not appear at the postgame press conference.

“We just have to be ready to play. We’re not going to quit, we’re not going to give up, we want to make the play-offs. We’re going to stick together.”
