Dave Portnoy has revealed the mistake he will never make again after being lost at sea off the island of Nantucket.
In a video he shared with X, the Barstool Sports founder explained how he had to be rescued by the Coast Guard after his boat was swept out to sea with “no power, no radio, no anchor, nothing.”
And in the future, Portnoy will do everything he can to free his boat from the shackles.
“A lot of people said, ‘Beginner, the first thing you do is turn the boat on before you untie it,’” he said in his BFF’s podcast.
“But Captain Dave will never make that mistake again. I’ll turn the boat on before I untie it.”
Dave Portnoy opened up about his ‘scary’ incident at sea on a new episode of his BFFs podcast
Portnoy wasn’t sure if he deliberately untied the boat or if the shackles broke. He said there was a “he said, she said” mindset about the matter.
However, he admitted the incident was “scary” as he was “probably floating around for an hour”.
Portnoy said it was only his third time on the boat. He described himself as “not like that crazy, boat-savvy guy.”
He added that he had sent a “strongly worded” text message to the people who sold him the boat.
As he described Monday, Portnoy sent out a distress signal before a woman boarded his boat to help.

She managed to contact the coast guard and helped bring the media tycoon to safety.
“Captain Dave was already halfway to fucking the Caribbean,” he said in the video.
He added earlier: “You boys almost lost Captain Dave today.”
Portnoy had planned to take a boat trip with his parents before the situation got out of hand.
