Dave Portnoy: I split with my ex-wife years ago… but she’s still got ‘full access’ to my $250 million fortune

Dave Portnoy received applause online after revealing he still shares a bank account with his estranged wife.

The Barstool Sports founder, 47, split from his wife Renee in 2017, but the two never formally divorced.

Now he’s opened up about their unusual situation during an appearance on the Sage Steele podcast, admitting he still lets Renee use his massive earnings whenever she wants.

The businessman, who reportedly has a net worth of $250 million, explained that he and Renee “met when Barstool was nothing” and that she was by his side “every step of the way” during his rise to fame.

That’s why, when they decided to go their separate ways, he was adamant about giving her “full access” to his money.

“We met when Barstool was nothing, so she came with us… She was with me every step of the way, so in my eyes she has the right to enjoy the fruits of it,” he explained.

“She currently has access to all my money. If she just wanted to be the way I assume and be gone, she could.

‘But we’ve always had that joint bank account. I trust her implicitly. She has had full access for a long time.”

When asked if he was worried she would “take advantage of it,” he insisted: “No, she’s much more frugal than me.”

Dave called Renee his “best friend” and added that you “can’t replace someone who has seen everything you’ve been through.”

“We always got along, it wasn’t like we had a big blow at the end or anything. “The marriage just didn’t go the way we wanted it to,” he concluded.

A clip of the interview was shared on TikTok earlier this week, where it quickly went viral, and Dave’s comments about his ex were met with huge praise.

“His loyalty to those around him is second to none,” one said.

“Honestly, he’s gotten so much of my respect lately. The way he stands up for the people he cares for is so admirable,” another agreed.

‘Best ex-husband ever. She was there for him during the struggle – and in return, he is there for her forever,” someone else added.

“He still sees her value even though he can’t be the man who truly loves her. That’s a real man. And he never abandoned her. TAKE NOTES,” read a fourth comment.

A fifth said: ‘I really didn’t care about Dave but wow, now I really do. Much respect man.’

“And that ladies and gentlemen is a perfect example of mutual respect,” another user wrote.

Dave and Renee married in 2009 but separated in 2017; however, a Massachusetts judge denied their divorce petition last year.

“It was denied because she and I have a very fluid relationship with our finances,” he shared on the podcast.

‘We have been legally separated for a long time, but the judge said our agreement was not fair to her.

‘[The judge] said, “Dave, you’re worth a lot more, you should give her half.” But she said, “I don’t want half.” So we pretty much agreed on how to do that [without the court].’

Court documents obtained by DailyMail.com stated that they requested to maintain their joint bank account, which would be “funded entirely and exclusively by [Dave] for payment of all costs of [Renee] without limitation.’

The media personality also said he would continue to provide medical and healthcare coverage to his estranged wife. But a judge denied the request, calling the arrangement “unacceptable.”

After splitting from Renee, the Barstool boss dated model Silvana Mojica for three years.

He broke up with her in November 2023 and later explained on his podcast that he felt he “couldn’t give Silvana what she deserves.”

Dave was last linked to 25-year-old Camryn D’Aloia after they were spotted together on the court at a Celtics game.

For her part, Renee has also moved on with a new man, with whom she has been in a relationship since 2021.
