BBC announces last minute schedule shake up after Dave Myers’ tragic death at the age of 66

The BBC has announced a last minute schedule change to the running order of The One Show tonight, following the death of Hairy Bikers presenter Dave Myers.

His heartbroken co-star Si King announced the news today as family, friends and colleagues paid emotional tribute to the beloved TV star, who announced he was receiving treatment for cancer in May 2022.

Si said his co-star died on Wednesday with his family and friends by his side.

Following the Hairy Bikers star’s death, the BBC said it will no longer air the Lenny Henry Exclusive Vote for the comedian’s funniest Red Nose Day moments on The One Show tonight.

Instead, the special segment will be featured on the Friday, March 1 episode, airing at 7 p.m.

The reshuffle opens up space for a possible tribute to Dave after his death.

The segment originally intended as a tribute to Sir Lenny will celebrate his life and work with an exclusive vote for his funniest Comic Relief moments.

Paying tribute to fellow Hairy Biker Dave, Si said in a statement: “Hello everyone, I’m afraid I have some sad news.

“Most of you will know that Dave has been battling cancer for the past few years.

‘Last night, February 28, 2024, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, good friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home.

“Everyone who knew Dave is devastated by his death. His beloved wife brought him so much happiness, as did her children, Iza and Sergiu, whom Dave loved as much as he loved himself.

“Personally, I’m not sure I can put into words how I feel right now.

‘My best friend is on a journey that I can’t follow for a while. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared for half a lifetime.

“I wish you God’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. I’ll see you on the other side. Love you.’

2024 also marks the final year that Sir Lenny will host Comic Relief, having done so almost every year since its inception, having founded the charity with Richard Curtis in 1985.

Hairy Bikers Dave and Si first met working in the film industry – Dave as a make-up artist and Si as a location director – and immediately formed a strong friendship over their love of both food and motorcycles.

Throughout their career, the duo built a reputation as the friendly faces of TV cooking, with 31 separate projects since their debut on the BBC in 2006.

Dave is survived by his heartbroken wife Liliana Orzac and her two children Izabelle and Sergiu, who supported him during his illness.

Dave and Liliana kept their personal lives incredibly private after marrying in 2011 in the star’s hometown of Barrow, Cumbria.

Speaking about the support he received from his wife during his battle with cancer, Dave said in December: ‘A lot of the credit also goes to my wife, she has been through it all with me from the start.

“It’s absolutely essential and I feel very sad for the people who have to go through this on their own.”
