Dave Hughes reveals the unexpected challenge he’s encountered after losing his driver’s licence: ‘They just start swearing really loudly’

Dave Hughes has revealed the harsh reality he has faced since losing the ability to drive.

The comedian, 52, has had his driver’s license suspended for three months for speeding and is forced to take public transport everywhere he goes.

Speaking on his radio show Hughesy Ed and Erin on Wednesday morning, Dave revealed the challenges he faces now that he has to travel with his children by bus, train or light rail/tram to get them to school and their sports matches. .

He remembers the moment he and his 10-year-old daughter Tess were taking the light rail to her basketball game when a group of high school girls boarded.

“We were sitting there, and then about six schoolgirls got in and sat across from us,” he recalls.

‘Feet on chairs, just lazing around. Just owning the light rail…I feel like I’m not respecting (the space).

‘And then they just start cursing really loudly. I’m there… Tess starts giggling…’

The masked singer then asked if he should have “turned to these girls and said ‘watch your language.’

‘I have a number of impressionable primary school-age children, girls, with me. Watch your language, high school thugs,” he added.

Dave eventually said he didn’t say anything to the teens and let them continue.

In August, the Melbourne-based personality revealed how he lost his driver’s license.

“I’m not a driver under the influence, I don’t even drink,” he said in the radio program two months ago.

“And I’m not a crazy speeder…I don’t do drugs, not even marijuana. Completely sober.

“But driving 46 kilometers per hour in 40 (km per hour) zones, you do that often enough, you get a point, a point, a point, a point, a point, and they’re all gone.”

Dave added that he tried to try the ‘double or nothing’ method used in Victoria, but it was long past his time to apply.

‘They didn’t recognize that I was a celebrity. I was just using my voice, she knew that,” he said of the VicRoads employee he contacted.
