Dave Hughes left furious at his wife while Christmas shopping at Chadstone shopping centre – as fans slam former radio star for his ‘grumpy’ behaviour

Dave Hughes has criticized his wife for ‘abandoning’ him at an upscale Melbourne shopping center during the Christmas hast.

The veteran comedian, 54, posted a clip to Instagram on Tuesday explaining he was ‘stranded’ in the shops while his better half Holly did some last minute shopping.

‘I’m at Chadstone Shopping Center and my wife has just sent me away. “I can’t walk with her while she shops because I’m apparently too ‘agitated,’” Dave began.

Dave then revealed his wife’s very surprising reason for making him wait outside the stores while shopping.

“She said I never look like I’m having fun. What should I do now? Woman grins.’

A dejected Dave was then seen looking around at the fancy specialty stores he passed as he waited impatiently for Holly to return.

“Should my wife have sent me away?” Dave asked him fans.

Many of the comedian’s followers quickly took to the comments section to criticize him for his “grumpy” behavior.

‘Good call from Holly. A captain’s call,” wrote Australian comedian Ash Williams.

‘Go buy her a present! And stop hanging around! Look alive!’ a second person added.

“I don’t blame her,” a third person interjected, and another wrote, “I would send you away too.” You look and sound miserable.”

Dave married his wife Holly on New Year’s Eve in 2006 and they share three children together: Rafferty, 15, Sadie, 13, and Tess, 11.

The comedian has had a challenging year, just like his long-running breakfast show Hughesy, Ed and Erin were dropped from 2DayFM in August.

2Day FM announced the termination of its trio of hosts on August 8, informing listeners that they had opted out pull the plug on the show and replace it with night shift larrikins Jimmy Smith and Nath Roye, who hosted The Jimmy and Nath Show.

The announcement came that evening as the embattled presenters were given one more show to wrap up the next morning – but they decided not to go back on air.

‘We enjoyed our time together on 2DayFM Breakfast, thanks to some of our families live in different cities we cannot commit to 2025,” Hughsey, Ed and Erin said in a statement.

‘So with a heavy heart we are stepping aside so that 2DayFM can find the team to help them further in Breakfast.’

The program, presented by DaafEd Kavalee and Erin Molan only achieved a market share of 3.6 in the latest audience survey.

Millions of dollars were reportedly spent to save the long-running radio program, but nothing could be done to keep the show on the air.

According to radio insiders, the departure was ‘a long time coming’ for the trio and their plummeting ratings were the ‘final nail in the coffin’.

“Southern Cross Austereo has spent millions to make this show a success, including relocating Hughesy Melbourne to try to “connect” with Sydney listeners. It’s always difficult to find an audience,” says an insider Yahoo lifestyle.

SCA then thanked the radio presenters for their ‘passion and commitment’ following the announcement.

“We are incredibly grateful to Hughesy, Ed and Erin for their continued dedication to making the 2DayFM Breakfast show a fun way to wake Sydney up every morning since 2020.” We wish them the best,” said Dave Cameron, SCA Chief Content Officer.
