Dave Hughes cruelly ‘body shamed’ in hospital while recovering from surgery

Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes has revealed his recent hospital stay was painful in more ways than one.

The 53-year-old comedian and radio star told his co-hosts on 2Day FM’s Hughesy, Ed and Erin show that he had been ‘body shaming’ while recovering from shoulder surgery.

“As a man with man boobs, I was recently in the hospital and I got a picture with the surgeon and someone said, ‘Can we cover your breasts?'” he joked on Wednesday.

He then teased that “iIt wasn’t a medical professional, it was someone in the room who made the ‘offensive’ comment.

Co-host Erin Molan was quick to agree that Hughes did indeed have man boobs.

Hughesy chose to return to his radio show one day after undergoing major surgery surfing injury he received last year.

The veteran presenter shocked his co-hosts by entering the studio while still clearly in pain.

“Thanks for having me back, I won’t be fussing today. I’ll just be very careful in the corner and handle my own stuff,” Hughesy told his colleagues.

His co-stars told Hughesy that they were shocked that he went to work when he had not yet fully recovered from the surgery.

It comes a week after Hughes chose to return to his radio show, a day after undergoing major surgery for a surfing injury he suffered last year.

‘Either I’m uncomfortable in bed at home, or I’m uncomfortable here. “I’d rather be here because it takes my mind off the pain,” he said.

“I’m happy to be here and interact with you because you lighten my burdens.”

In December, the comedian was rushed to hospital after dislocating his shoulder on a Queensland beach, resulting in nerve damage and excruciating pain.

While in the hospital, he made a surprise call to his radio show from his bed to reveal a surprise surgery story about Russell Crowe while on heavy drugs.

He said he got celebrity gossip from his doctor Greg Hoy, known as “surgeon to the stars.”

Hughes (pictured) made it clear it wasn’t a health professional who told him he had ‘man boobs’ – and he didn’t reveal who made the hurtful comment.

‘He used to play Shane Warne and Russell Crowe. Apparently Greg is even featured in the behind-the-scenes footage of Cinderella Man on DVD,” he explained.

“Russell wanted his phone with him even though he was sedated, and his phone rang while he was being cut up. The surgeon answered and spoke to a very famous person who answered.”

The team at the studio were eager to find out who it was and tried to take advantage of Hughesy’s medical condition to get the answer.

However, Hughesy said he was told not to reveal who it was, but promised to tell his co-hosts off air.
