Dave Grohl’s mother Virginia’s warning about rocker’s love life reemerges after he admits to cheating on his wife and fathering secret love child
Dave Grohl fans were shocked on Tuesday when he admitted cheating on his wife and secretly fathering a love child with another woman.
The 55-year-old Foo Fighters frontman publicly apologized to his wife of 21 years, Jordyn Blum, and their three children, saying he was “doing everything I can to earn their trust and forgiveness.”
While fans are still reeling from the news, an interview with Grohl’s late mother Virginia has surfaced in which she admitted she’s concerned about her son’s love life.
Virginia, who sadly passed away in 2022, told The Guardian in 2017 that she was more concerned about how her son would interact with women than whether he would be swept up in the pitfalls of a rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle.
Looking back on Grohl’s newfound fame in the early ’90s, she admitted, “I was worried about women. It’s so embarrassing, but my biggest fear was that Madonna would steal it.”

Virginia also touched on Grohl’s status as ‘the nicest man in rock’.
The former teacher turned author spoke to other rock star moms while researching a book and noted she ‘secretly unpublished acts of generosity and kindness’ are valued more than the platinum records – the ‘connections to family or community’.
She went on to describe Grohl as “a philanthropist, a reliable husband and a ‘super dad’ to his three daughters.
Grohl and Blum have daughters together Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10.
Virginia noted, “He makes their breakfast, he makes their lunch, and then he goes to the studio,” addinghe really is as nice as everyone says.
The interview has resurfaced after Grohl revealed on Instagram that he secretly had a love child.
“I recently became the father of a new baby daughter, born out of wedlock. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything in my power to earn their trust and forgiveness,” he wrote.
“We are grateful for your attention to all the children involved as we move forward together,” he concluded.

Grohl and Blum met in 2001 and have been married since 2003.
After he revealed he had fathered a child out of wedlock, his two eldest daughters both deleted their social media accounts.
His confession of marital infidelity followed a confession to The guard in 2007 that he had also cheated on his first wife, Jennifer Leigh Youngblood.
The two married in 1994, but separated in 1996. They divorced the following year.
In the same interview with The Guardian, Grohl said: “[My wife] Jordyn and [daughter] Violet is an anchor that keeps me from disappearing completely.’
Speaking to TIME in 2012, he said his family “changed everything I do.”
He added: ‘It’s changed everything I do. When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply and maybe you’re a little more compassionate. It’s inevitable that that finds its way into your songwriting.’
Although little is publicly known about Blum, People reported that she once appeared on the cover of Teen, after being discovered in a supermarket at age 12.
She was reportedly working as a producer at MTV when she met the frontman.
But Grohl told Elle in 2007 that he wasn’t ready for a serious relationship when they first met, and after a few dates, he stopped calling Blum.
He shared, “After three months, I had an epiphany and called her back. She picked up the phone and said, ‘Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again.'”
Blum has collaborated with the Foo Fighters several times, including in the 2002 music video White Limo, in which she also appeared.
She also co-directed the 2002 music video for Foo Fighters, Walking a Line.

Following the shocking announcement, videos have surfaced of the last time Grohl was spotted in public with Blum.
The rocker was spotted by a BBC Sport reporter, who asked him about his predictions for the winners of the Wimbledon Championship, which took place in London in July.
Many spectators were looking forward to watching the important matches, but Grohl sounded irritated and dismissive as he walked past the reporter and responded gruffly and curtly.
Several people commenting on the TikTok clip at the time noted that the normally gregarious Grohl was in an unusually foul mood. One summed it up this way: “Dave’s been acting like a wimp lately.”
“Dave, can I just quickly hear your prediction for the winner of Wimbledon?” the interviewer asks, holding a microphone to the drummer and guitarist.
“What?” Grohl says with a questioning look on his face.
“Who do you think will win Wimbledon?” the reporter repeats himself, but to no avail.
“What?” Grohl asks again with the same exaggerated expression, though he seems to break into a slight smile at the last moment.
“Who’s going to win?” the determined reporter continues. “What about the men? [tournament]’?
“No idea,” Grohl replies in a less dismissive tone as he walks past with his wife Jordyn at his side.
The women [winner]“?” the reporter adds.
“I couldn’t say,” the singer replies before continuing on his way.

Dave gave a BBC Sports reporter gruff and clipped answers, and a TikTok commenter summed it up this way: ‘Dave’s been acting like a bit of a wimp lately’
Several fans defended Grohl against claims that he acted “sissy” during the short clip.
Some fans speculated that the awkward meeting was due to the death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who passed away in March 2022, and the death of his mother in August of that year.
Some fans suspected that Grohl was merely trying to be humorous with his short answers and apparent confusion about the interviewer’s questions, which may have been due to his accent.
However, others claimed he may have avoided answering because he “didn’t know anything about tennis”.
“He’s not being a wimp, he just has no idea who’s playing, etc,” one fan suggested in the comments.
Some felt that Grohl could have brushed the reporter off more politely, but other commenters argued that parasocial fans would have found something to be angry about regardless of his response.
It appears that Grohl has not appeared in public with his wife since the tennis tournament.
Although he admitted to cheating on Blum in his statement on Tuesday, there is no indication when the existence of his love child was revealed to her, or what the current status of their marriage is.
