Dave Grohl’s ex-girlfriend Tina Basich, 55, spoke candidly about her stormy relationship with the 55-year-old Foo Fighters singer in her 2003 memoir, noting how his cheating abruptly ended their romance

Basich wrote in the book that she was “so disappointed … that she had been sucked into the romance with the famous musician.”

Basich said Grohl, who was a drummer for Nirvana before forming the Foo Fighters, was very curt in his split from her because she was struggling with a broken leg.

“Breakups suck,” Basich said. “But Rockstar exits are the worst. All I got was a five-minute phone call from him after five weeks of calling him and trying to get a hold of him, because I just had to know if these rumors were true and hear it straight from the source.”

Basich said Grohl admitted “nothing” and promptly “disappeared off the face of the earth” in her life, while he was “everywhere else” amid his band’s continued success.

Basich explained how hard the split was for her, as she couldn’t “avoid the thought of” Grohl after his abrupt split from her.

“A few days after we broke up, I was grocery shopping and heard the elevator music version of ‘Learn to Fly’ and it made my stomach hurt,” she said. “Then I saw him on the cover of Guitar Magazine, staring at me in the checkout line.”

Basich said she “didn’t know how to deal with the painful breakup” because she felt like she was “not that strong” at the time.

She added that “you can only give up so much of your heart, your career, your time and your mind, and there I was, giving it all up for a man and losing myself in the process.”

Grohl made headlines on Tuesday after announcing on Instagram that he had fathered a child out of wedlock, amid his 21-year marriage to wife Jordyn Blum, 48. The couple has three daughters: Violet Maye, 18, Harper Willow, 15, and Ophelia Saint, 10.

“I recently became the father of a new baby daughter, born out of wedlock,” Grohl said. “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to earn their trust and forgiveness.

“We are grateful for your attention to all the children involved as we move forward together.”

Grohl made no further comments about the mother’s identity.

Grohl and Blum married in 2003. He was previously married to photographer Jennifer Leigh Youngblood from 1994 to 1997.

Grohl formed the Foo Fighters in 1994, the year of Kurt Cobain’s suicide, which ended Nirvana. Foo Fighters drummer and Grohl confidant Taylor Hawkins died at age 50 in March 2022 while the band was on tour in Colombia.
