Dave Bautista reveals plan that helped him lose 75 pounds – after he shocked fans with his slimmer athletic look
Action movie star Dave Bautista has astonished his fans with his drastic weight loss, dropping a whopping 75 pounds in just over two years.
The former WWE star began training after filming wrapped on the 2023 release Knock at the Cabin. At the time, he weighed 315 pounds, which was heavier than when he wrestled professionally.
It took him a lot of effort to lose the pounds he had gained with the help of fries and pancakes.
To achieve this, he limited his calorie intake to 2,500, about 1,000 calories fewer than the Mayo Clinic recommends for someone his age and size to lose weight.
He fasted until at least 1 p.m. and then ate mostly vegetarian, with eggs and fish for protein. He ate his last meal at least three hours before bedtime.

The 55-year-old former wrestler spoke to TikTok personality Chris Van Vliet about his weight loss: ‘I started losing weight because I got fat.
“I got really big for a role and it was awkwardly big… Knock at the Cabin… I got really big. I was about 315 pounds and I gained it really fast.”
Gaining a significant amount of weight (before Knock at the Cabin, that number hovered around 600 to 700 pounds) poses some worrying health risks.
It’s not clear how he trained or what kind of workout regimen he followed during his weight gain period, but he told fans he ate a lot of sugary and fatty foods.
This often leads to an accumulation of body fat, which can pose a health risk even if the Body Mass Index (BMI) is within a normal range.
It also puts more strain on the heart, increases blood pressure and causes cholesterol levels to rise.
Rapid weight gain can also change the way the body responds to insulin, increasing your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Bautista said he gained an “uncomfortable” amount of weight while filming Knock at the Cabin: “I was probably a little too big, but at the time I just thought, ‘I have to get big.'”
He added: “It took forever to get it off.”

He gained an “uncomfortable” amount of weight for the film, weighing between 275 and 290 pounds before filming.
Since filming for Knock at the Cabin wrapped about two years ago, Bautista has been eating 2,500 calories a day, mostly vegetarian, with eggs and fish for protein.
The total allowance was an unusually low amount, considering the estimated 3,100 to 3,700 recommended for a person of his height (1.93 m) and a starting weight of 315.
The Glass Onion star credits his weight loss to Brazilian jiu-jitsu and even had a trainer fly out to Budapest to work with him while filming Dune 2.
Earlier this summer, he told Kelly Ripa on Live with Kelly and Mark, “This is how I lose weight.
Bautista and trainer Jason Manly “did nothing but wrestle for hours and hours. And so I started losing weight and I thought I’d just keep it up so I could get my brown belt,” which he earned in 2023.
The more weight he lost, the better he felt. His new regimen even helped him overcome allergies and asthma.
He also follows a fasting schedule where he waits to eat until about 1:00 p.m. He is then allowed to eat for a few hours and stops eating about three hours before bedtime.
He said, “I was cutting weight and I sacrificed a lot of muscle. But I’m okay with it because I just feel better.”
Bautista has been accused of using performance-enhancing drugs to achieve his massive figure. Although he has admitted to using anabolic steroids to recover from muscle injuries, there is no concrete evidence to support those claims that he abused steroids.
Bautista is known for his intimidating, bulky characters, including Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy. Fans say he is now unrecognizable
Fans are shocked by his weight loss and are even speculating that the actor has an eating disorder, as “people have seen me get so much fatter over the years that they think I’m anorexic.”
He told Chris Van Vliet: ‘It’s weird because people think, like me, people say, “God, you’re so thin.” I even saw online that some people are concerned about my health.’
It was not an easy journey.
Bautista said: I’m exhausting myself to be this lean. I mean I train hard, not just hard, but my calories are pretty limited, like 2,500 a day.
He added: ‘For me it’s nothing. I just don’t eat much. I’m not hungry or anything.’
Still, he plans to lose a few more pounds, and is now at his lowest weight since he was 19.
