Feedback welcome

Mainly used as a business password manager, Dashlane has followed managers more focused on personal users, such as Bitwarden, to go open-source.

The company said it plans to “update these projects quarterly, and we may update more frequently in the future as we improve our internal capabilities and processes.”

Anyone from developers to curious customers can explore the code behind Dashlane to see the algorithms and logic at work behind the mobile apps. They can also get a feel for how password managers work in general.

One benefit for business users, as the company points out, is that IT teams can audit the password manager to make sure it complies with their company’s security policies.

Dashlane also welcomes feedback from Android and iOS engineers on code quality and encourages ethical hackers to test their skills and try to find vulnerabilities in them. HackerOne Bug Bounty Program (opens in new tab).

While it accepts this kind of involvement from the developer community, Dashlane states that it does not yet accept contributions to its software code. However, it hopes developers can make such contributions directly on the GitHub page in the future.

While most of the code is publicly available, Dashlane warns that full reproduction of the software will not be possible. As it says, “we share the recipe, but we had to leave out a few ingredients that make it our own.”
