Darwin Nunez has been given the number 9 shirt by Liverpool ahead of the new season.
Nunez, who arrived for the club in June 2022 for £85 million, wore 27 during his debut campaign at Anfield.
The 24-year-old Uruguayan has received a huge vote of confidence from manager Jurgen Klopp as he will follow Roberto Firmino, Fernando Torres and Robbie Fowler in wearing the iconic number 9.
He opted to take the vacant jersey following the departure of Firmino, who left Liverpool after his contract expired to join Saudi side Al-Ahli on a free transfer.
“I’m really happy to wear number 9, and I’m also very proud,” said Nunez. “Honestly, before other players represented this number very well, and now it’s my turn to wear it.
