Daredevil: Born Again reportedly in serious trouble as Marvel looks to rework entire Disney Plus show

Marvel has reportedly hit the reset button Daredevil: Born Again after it failed to meet the studio’s high expectations.

According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Marvel has been rebooted Daredevil series is in serious trouble as studio president Kevin Feige plans a complete overhaul of the highly anticipated Disney Plus show. TechRadar has reached out to Disney and Marvel for comment, and we will report back if we receive a response.

THR’s article is quite damning in its portrayal of Daredevil: Born Again‘s production. The Marvel Phase 5 series, which had begun filming before the now-resolved writers’ strike put the shooting schedule on ice, is falling short of the standard expected within the power world.

THR has claimed that Marvel’s management team took one look at the currently shot footage and decided that the entire project would need to be significantly reworked to meet fan expectations upon release. Less than half of the show’s 18 episodes had been filmed. But THR claims that Marvel wasn’t keen on the series being positioned as a legal drama due to the more R-rated action-oriented vibe that Netflix offers. Daredevil series became famous for.

To this end, Daredevil: Born AgainThe showrunners of the series – Chris Ord and Matt Corman – were quietly let go by Marvel, while the directors of the series were also let go until the studio decides what direction it wants to take with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) TV show. THR also suggests that the Disney affiliate is now looking to hire an entirely new creative team to build the project from the ground up, although some previously shot footage will be retained for the final product.

This isn’t the first worrying news about Marvel’s reboot Daredevil series from the past few days. On October 6, we reported on the rumors that Daredevil: Born Again wouldn’t air on Disney Plus until early 2025. Leaked documents from the US Copyright Office revealed that the project wouldn’t be released for another 15 months, with fans speculating that the delay was simply due to the writers’ and actors’ ongoing strike. Now it looks like Marvel has pushed Reborn‘s launch back due to how difficult its development has been.

Daredevil: Born AgainMarvel’s problems are just the latest in a long line of recent negative press that Marvel has faced. Thanks to the industrial action, the studio has continually had to postpone multiple MCU films. Meanwhile, on the TV side, the recently released Loki Season 2 is believed to be the last Marvel TV show of 2023, as the company reevaluates its small-screen strategy as parent company The Walt Disney Company tries to stem the cash flow in the streaming era. Previously announced shows for 2023, such as Echoare now expected to arrive from January 2024.

Additionally, Marvel has faced mixed receptions for a number of its recently launched films and TV shows, including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania And Secret invasion come in for sharp criticism.

Add to that the seemingly terrible working conditions that the in-house visual effects (VFX) workers are subjected to – a problem one of them Loki Season 2’s directors suggest it’s “systemic” – plus the upcoming trial of Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors on domestic violence charges, and Marvel’s reputation has taken a huge hit in recent times.

Marvel had hoped for more positive reactions Guardians of the Galaxy 3 And Loki Season 2 we’ve been faced with would alleviate some of the pressure it’s currently under. However, with his Daredevil The TV show becomes the latest project to suffer from unnecessary bad press, it remains to be seen if the MCU’s global fanbase will continue to let things slide or if more viewers will begin to lose faith in Marvel’s cinematic juggernaut.
