Dapper and Shelley married in July 2022 at the Weybridge Registry Office.
The wedding came four years after Dapper unexpectedly proposed live on air to former glamor model Shelley following his eviction from the Celebrity Big Brother house, with his appearance on the show coming amid his attempt to redeem himself following a rape joke that his career cancelled.
Dapper shocked the studio audience and viewers at home when he unexpectedly proposed to his then-girlfriend Shelley live during his eviction interview with host Emma Willis in January 2018.
The disgraced comedian got down on one knee midway through the interview and asked his long-term love to marry him, prompting her to break down in tears, and she wasn’t the only one as viewers also felt emotional after the sweet moment.
Dapper recalled his experience of living in the Celebrity Big Brother house and confessed he had had a lot of time to think while starring in the Channel 5 reality series.
He turned to his girlfriend and said, “You know what, when I was in the house, I regretted every day that I didn’t ask you… so will you marry me?”
He then presented Shelley with a makeshift ring as she burst into tears at the romantic gesture.
A blast from the past: the comedian appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2018, after a dramatic fall from grace when he made a shocking joke about ‘gagging for a rape’

Dapper revealed that he planned to pop the question while waiting for an answer: “Is that a yes?” Sorry about the ring, Ginuwine made it for me, but we’ll exchange it for a better one.’
Stunned by the scenes unfolding before her, a shocked Emma joked, “You put that ring on before she could say no,” to Dapper as they resumed their post-eviction conversation.
Dapper emphasized that he would still go about his proposal the traditional way (or as close to the proposal as possible) and claimed that he would “double-check” with Shelley’s father whether he was okay with him asking her to marry him.
Once a comedian, he couldn’t resist joking, “Is the ring okay?” You don’t need another one either.’
He told MailOnline that his proposal to Shelley Rae was a last-minute decision, adding that he made the ring out of paper with Swarovski diamonds stuck to it.
He said he realized Shelley had taken a “huge backseat” in his life over the past year and that he “regretted” not proposing sooner.
‘My senior year was a roller coaster. My father passed away, I had a baby and I focused a lot on my career. Shelley had to take a backseat,” he said.
The star and Shelley had been dating for three years at the time and welcomed their first child together, daughter Neve, now five, in December 2016.
Neve’s arrival came after Shelley expressed her fears that the couple would not be able to have children after doctors told her she would struggle to conceive.
Dapper Laughs rose to fame as a stand-up comedian and pickup artist, enjoying great success in 2014.
However, he suffered a spectacular fall from grace when he joked about an audience member at a stand-up performance who was “gagging because of a rape”, while also being accused of misogyny.
After a campaign called for ITV to fire the star, the network announced its plan not to renew his show Dapper Laughs: On The Pull.
He later made a somber appearance on Newsnight in November 2014, saying the character had been retired indefinitely, but revived Dapper Laughs a month later.
He has since found himself at the center of controversy on CBB after making lewd comments about his female housemates, including a ‘nasty’ oral sex joke about Ann Widdecombe.
Despite attempts to repair his image through his stint on CBB, Dapper still faced questions about his continued crude jokes when he appeared on ITV’s Loose Women following his eviction.
Show panelist Nadia Sawalha asked the funny man some tough questions about the shocking incident, insisting that despite his contrite words, he still has “things to learn.”
Of his career-crashing moment, Dapper Laughs said, “It broke my heart that it upset so many people. Rightly so. It was very difficult for me to sit down and explain to Maggie (Oliver) that I was there because I had made bad judgment. And it was important to come out with her as a friend.’
