Daniel Craig made a handsome impression as he arrived at the Venice Pier on Tuesday morning to promote his new film Queer at the annual film festival.

The 56-year-old actor is tipped for an Oscar nomination in the Best Actor category for his portrayal of American expat and war veteran William Lee in the film about a same-sex romance.

Daniel, who has yet to receive a single Academy Award nomination despite his career in Hollywood, recently showed off his long, tousled blond locks, opting for a classic white shirt and blue jeans with sneakers for the occasion.

He smiled and waved as he walked to the photo shoot for the explicit same-sex drama, which premieres at the festival later that day.

The James Bond actor, who is out on the town with his wife Rachel Weisz, wore sunglasses and accessorised with a watch.

In the film, Allerton initially rejects Lee’s advances, but eventually gives in.

A source told the Ny Breaking that it was ‘a far cry from Bond and very explicit. Craig is brilliant in the film.’

Venice Film Festival president Alberto Barbera said he thinks Daniel has given “the best performance of his life” in Queer, and he would be surprised if we don’t see the British actor at next year’s Academy Awards.

Barbera told a reporter that Daniel “had a couple of sex scenes that were pretty intense.”

In an interview, Guadagnino said: ‘Queer will be my most personal film. It’s an homage to Powell and Pressburger.

“I’ve seen The Red Shoes at least 50 times and I think they would appreciate the sex scenes in Queer. They’re numerous and quite scandalous.”

The novella was written between 1951 and 1953, but not published until 1985. Much of it was written after the death of Burroughs’ wife, Joan Vollmer, whom he shot in the head during a drinking party in Mexico City.

Their four-year-old son was in the room at the time. Burroughs said he tried to shoot a glass off her head, William Tell-style, but later changed his story and said the weapon misfired.

He was convicted in absentia of manslaughter after fleeing to the US.

Nowadays, Daniel lives mainly in New York with actress Rachel and their young daughter.
