‘For Kane to go down like this is embarrassing’: Danny Murphy criticizes the Tottenham striker’s reaction to Abdoulaye Doucoure shoving him in the face – but labels the Everton midfielder an ‘idiot’ and says he it deserved to be sent off
- Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure was shown a red card for lashing out
- Doucoure lost his temper when he shoved Tottenham captain Harry Kane in the face
- Kane made the most of it as he theatrically dropped to the Goodison Park turf
Danny Murphy has labeled Harry Kane’s theatrical response to a shove to the face of Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure as ’embarrassing’.
The Toffees midfielder was shown a straight red card for shoving Kane in the face as the Spurs captain theatrically hit the Goodison Park turf.
The 29-year-old, who became England’s all-time record goalscorer during the international break, then clapped his hands in the face and fell to the ground where he then began to roll around.
Kane was the first opponent as he pushed Everton forward Demarai Gray to the ground, clattered into his legs and then grabbed Doucoure’s shirt.
Commenting on talkSPORT, Murphy labeled Kane’s response as “embarrassing,” saying, “Not enough to send him to the ground, he’s embarrassing himself.” Why did he start screwing someone like that? Doucoure would have been sent away anyway.

‘A little slap in the face won’t make you fall to the ground like you’ve just been punched… but Doucoure is an idiot.
“He knows the rules, he let his team down,” he added.
“It’s embarrassing for Kane to go down like this… if my kids played like that, I’d apologize and probably have to sit in a dark room with a cold washcloth on my face,” Murphy said.
The incident came just over 10 minutes into the second half with the score level as Everton attempted to secure a win that would see them climb out of the Premier League relegation zone.
Players raced to the scene in front of the dugout as chaos ensued, as Everton manager Sean Dyche detained Doucoure and tried to play down his midfielder’s hot-headed moment.
Referee David Coote took his time to calm the fiery spirits but had no choice but to wave a red card meaning Doucoure had to make the short walk through the tunnel.
Kane was booked for his initial involvement which led to an overreaction from the Everton midfielder.
