Danny Dyer shares his pride over son-in-law Jarrod Bowen earning a place in England’s final squad for the Euros, after the actor found out about the West Ham star’s inclusion on live radio

Danny Dyer burst with pride when he heard Jarrod Bowen was in Gareth Southgate’s final England squad for the 2024 European Championship.

The West Ham forward was included in the final of England’s last 26 after an impressive season for the Hammers, scoring 20 goals in 44 appearances.

His performances have seen him become a regular member of Southgate’s squad and he started in Friday’s 3-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Despite the big announcement of the final team heading to Germany, Danny Dyer, whose daughter Dani is in a relationship with Bowen, had no idea about his inclusion until he found out during an appearance on talkSPORT.

Dyer, who was on the show to promote last Sunday’s Soccer Aid, was told the news by presenter Andy Goldstein and was over the moon as he watched the striker make the plane.

Dyer punched the air and shouted ‘Yes’ as he heard the final shift, before revealing he had no idea of his place.

He said, ‘I swear to God I had no idea! So he goes, he’s on the plane – as it should be! Listen, I’m over the moon, mate. This boy, he deserves it. He worked hard. I thought he had ninety great minutes [against Bosnia].

“I of course listened to your great show, the governors, having a debate about playing time and what does that mean? If they play a lot it means they might not go and you were discussing whether they might go if they don’t play.

‘Or they are sure to go as [Southgate] knows what he will get from them. I just think he should have scored a goal at the end obviously, [Ezri] Konsa got in the way! They’re good friends, those two.

‘But I’m over the moon! That’s great for my Dani and Jarrod too, because they didn’t quite know what they were doing this summer, you know if they were on vacation or not. That also means I’m going to the European Championships!’

Bowen has been in a relationship with Dani Dyer since 2021 and the couple have twins, Star and Summer, who were born in May last year.

His 20 goals and 10 assists for West Ham this season have led some to believe Bowen could be on the move this summer, especially with the London club out of European football next season.

However, Dyer is not sure a move away from the London Stadium would benefit the 27-year-old as he wants to play as much football as possible.

Adding: ‘Look, it’s his career, he’s a great player.’ Imagine: what is a big club?

‘Not Man United, right? You don’t go there. Although he did support them as a child!

Dyer will be in action this Sunday as part of the England team taking part in Soccer Aid

Dyer has been getting to know Bowen since he started dating his daughter Dani in 2021

‘Ultimately the man wants to play football and he wants to be the first man in the team.

‘He doesn’t want to sit on the bench. Some players go to big clubs like Kalvin Phillips and so on. That one has received a lot of awards and trophies, how much did he commit to it or was he part of it?’

Bowen will face stiff competition for a place over the summer, with Cole Palmer, Anthony Gordon and Ebere Eze all included in the final squad.

Meanwhile, Dyer will be showing his work alongside a plethora of celebrities and former footballers as England take on the Rest of the World for Soccer Aid at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
