Daniel Andrews cancels the 2026 Commonwealth Games which were due to be held in regional Victoria

Global embarrassment as Daniel Andrews cancels Victoria’s 2026 Commonwealth Games with the state billions of dollars in debt – as he prepares for a speedy press conference

  • Competitions would be held in regional Victoria
  • Massive national debt thought to be behind the move

The Commonwealth Games to be held in regional Victoria in 2026 will be canceled by Prime Minister Daniel Andrews.

Daily Mail Australia understands that the Prime Minister will make the announcement in a hastily arranged press conference on Tuesday morning.

Commonwealth Games staff were reportedly summoned to an urgent meeting early on Tuesday.

The reason behind the shock move is almost certainly due to finances – Victoria’s national debt is expected to reach $135.4 billion in 2024, rising to $171.4 billion in 2026-27.
