Dancing On Ice legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean skated together for the first time in eight months as they prepared for an appearance on Emmerdale

The pair first skated together in 1975 and went on to win a gold medal at the 1984 Winter Olympics.

Jayne, 66, explained that due to rupturing a biceps tendon while rehearsing with 65-year-old Chris, they haven't skated together in eight months.

Speaking to the Mirror at Planet Ice in Leeds, Jayne said: 'So this is the first day in a long time that we've done a routine together. I got a little teary. Normally I'm known as a stone heart, but I was so excited.'

Jayne and Chris were pictured teaching Emmerdale's Belle (Eden Taylor Draper) to skate for an upcoming storyline.

They said: 'Since she hasn't skated before, she shows a lot of flair. I think she only practiced for two hours yesterday.”

The duo play themselves in the soap, as Belle makes sure to surprise Tom (James Chase), a huge figure skating superfan, before popping the question.

She met Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon Dingle, at an ITV party. Chris said: 'Mark told us you two should do something in Emmerdale! Producer Jane Hudson was there and she said, 'Yes, we can make that happen.'

It comes after Dancing On Ice suffered another blow after a star from the upcoming series suffered an injury ahead of the show's launch in January.

Love Island star Amber Davies, 27, revealed on Instagram last week that she tore her quad muscle during her turn on stage as Vivian Ward, originally played by Julia Roberts in the 1990 film, in the UK touring production of Pretty Woman.

In a duo of posts, she revealed that she had suffered a grade one tear during Monday's show at Glasgow's Theater Royal, which is 'a muscle pull or strain causing pain and tenderness but not loss of muscle strength'.

She then shared a photo of her leg being worked on by her skating pro Simon Proulx Sénécal with the caption: 'Back on the ice tomorrow for some gentler training with my main man @simsenecal. Ey, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.'

In an accompanying caption for the next shot, she wrote: 'Tore my Quad on Monday (thankfully group one). And the show must go on as they say… Thank you to @olliesavile for taking care of me for half the week when I needed it most.'

Amber won Love Island in 2017 together with her then boyfriend Kem Cetinay, who also participated in Dancing On Ice in 2018.

The line-up also includes Hannah Spearritt, Greg Rutherford, Ryan Thomas, Roxy Shahidi, Eddie The Eagle, Adele Roberts, Ricky Hatton, Ricky Norwood, Claire Sweeney, Miles Nazaire and Lou Sanders.

News of Amber's injury comes after Gogglebox star Stephen Lustig-Webb was forced to leave the show after breaking his ankle in a horror fall.

Stephen, 52, left the Channel 4 show after ten years with ambitions to pursue further TV opportunities, and was soon signed up for the ITV dance series.

But after a freak accident during training last month, he was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, where doctors told him he had broken his left ankle and would be on crutches for at least the next three months.

The TV personality underwent surgery to have metal plates placed in his ankle for extra support, but there is no hope of him getting back on the ice.

Sources close to Stephen say he has 'thoroughly enjoyed the new challenge' and got to know judges Torvill and Dean, as well as the other contestants, and is 'gutted' to lose his place in the competition before the show has even started.
