Joe Pyfer’s role as the new UFC golden boy was upended a few times on Saturday night, with him losing by unanimous decision to Jack Hermansson at UFC Vegas 86.
In the five-round main bout, Hermansson dominated the final three rounds of the fight, earning a verdict of 48-47 on all three judges’ scorecards.
Pyfer appeared to run out of steam in the five-minute third round after outdoing Hermansson with strikes during the first 10 minutes of the fight.
This was Pyfer’s first loss with the promotion and his first scrap in the Octagon that went to the judges’ scorecards. This was also Pyfer’s first main event fight in the UFC.
Hermansson has been with the UFC since 2016 and was by far the most experienced fighter Pyfer has faced with the promotion. That left some UFC fans on social media happy to see Pyfer knocked down a few pegs.

“The guy said (Alex) Pereira is nothing special and then performs like this,” said another fan with a laughing emoji. ‘Wow what a special fighter Pyfer is!!’
“Yes, I can say with confidence that Joe Pyfer does NOT hit harder than (Francis) Ngannou,” said one fan on social media.
“Hype train derailed lol,” said another fan.
A collection of social media posts shows how Pyfer performed compared to expectations
After the fight, Pyfer was gracious in defeat, knowing that this won’t be the last we see of him in the promotion.
“I don’t think anything has surprised me with all the media I’ve done. And these are not excuses. Jack was better tonight, I think,” Pyfer said in the Octagon shortly after the fight.
Pyfer will likely get a chance to get back into the win column in a few months after showing plenty of confidence before Saturday’s loss.
