Dana White issues statement on Los Angeles wildfires as blaze threatens UFC 311

Dana White has broken his silence amid the Los Angeles wildfires, but has yet to comment on the status of UFC 311 on Jan. 18 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood.

As the flames wreak havoc across Los Angeles County, UFC fans have pointed out the fire’s proximity to the venue and home of the LA Clippers.

The Sunset fire near Runyon Canyon Park and the Palisades fire near the Skull Rock overlook are particularly alarming, as they are about 20 miles (32 kilometers) from the arena.

Although White and Co. did not speak about the problems with the event, the UFC chief offered to help the victims and praised the work of first responders.

‘I love this!!! Already called @govjoelombardo. Much respect to all Nevada and California first responders,” White wrote on Instagram. “EVERYTHING you need for me or @ufc, we’ve got you.”

The promotion’s first pay-per-view, headlined by the lightweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan, appears to be going well.

However, several sporting events have been affected by the disaster, with the Kings and Lakers postponing events at the Crypto.com Arena.

“Our hearts are with the entire Los Angeles community,” the Kings wrote. “We appreciate the hardworking first responders who are working diligently to contain the fire and protect our community. We appreciate the league’s support in keeping our fans, staff and players safe.

On the other hand, the NBA is closely evaluating the situation now that the LA Rams’ NFL playoff showdown against the Minnesota Vikings has been moved from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Award-winning MMA journalist Ariel Helwani reported that the UFC would immediately move the card if the fires became an issue.

“UFC has had discussions about the status of UFC 311 next weekend, I’m told,” Helwani wrote.

“Right now, 311 is staying with Intuit. The hope is that it stays there. But they monitor and are willing to move the map if necessary. There is no question of postponing the card. It is clear that that call must be made quickly. The event lasts eight days.’

‘Vegas would be the leader. Please note: T-Mobile Arena is not booked next Saturday, January 18.’
