- Conor McGregor’s long-awaited comeback has been talked about in MMA for a while now
- He said he would fight Michael Chandler in June, before Dana White denied it
- UFC president has now said when he will target McGregor vs Chandler
Dana White has revealed that Conor McGregor’s long-awaited comeback has been postponed again.
He announced that the return of ‘Notorious’ is scheduled for the fall of this year, a blow to fans who harbored vague hopes that McGregor would headline UFC 300 or return at the latest in the summer.
This week, McGregor had taken to Instagram to express his frustration at the lack of movement on his return in a clear message to his paymasters.
He wrote: ‘Get this damn date set.’
And when asked about the former two-weight champion’s return, White told Pat McAfee: “Eventually. Hopefully this year. There is no date. I hope for the fall. (Hopefully) we’ll get it done in the fall.”

Even then, White’s wording was far from a guarantee that McGregor will return in the fall.
It will have been more than three years since he last set foot in the octagon for the trilogy with Dustin Poirier, in which he broke his leg in the first round.
McGregor seemed desperate to come back for a while, teasing a supposed fight day late last year and then sharing in a video, telling fans he will fight Chandler at middleweight in June.
White then poured cold water on that in an interview, leaving many fans confused about what’s happening behind the scenes.
McGregor appears fit and ready to fight and regularly shares training videos. He is back in the Test pool and has fully recovered from his leg injury.
He even recently hinted that he could headline the historic UFC 300 card on April 17.
He wrote, “McGregor at 300 seals the deal.” Chandler replied, “I accept, see you soon.”

With UFC 300 already set to be a huge card and International Fight Week in June a huge spectacle, the MMA promotion may want to distribute their main pay-per-view cards this year.
But the UFC 300 card still doesn’t have a headliner and needs the showpiece fight to bring everything together in what is already a stacked event.
It will be fascinating to see who White and Co choose as hopes of a McGregor comeback in April are now gone.
