DAN WOOTTON: Meghan Markle’s PR stunts are a shameful attempt to grab coronation attention

It was a predictable script straight out of Meghan Markle’s “how-to-get-everyone-talking-about-me-again” Hollywood PR 101 masterclass.

After months of purposefully avoiding the spotlight, leaving her hapless husband Harry to take on the backlash against his grotesque and unnecessarily nasty royal-shaming tell-all Spare, the Duchess of Woke has viscerally exploded back into the public consciousness, with a campaign in three steps that seem to have been taken straight from Princess Diana’s playbook.

APRIL 23: Unveiling Montecito’s revenge makeover, revealing a dramatic new world view while supporting a worthy cause (in this case, a TED talk for an awake friend).

DIANA DID IT TOO: In July 1994, when she stepped out to an event in London and looked spectacular in her little black revenge dress to successfully deflect attention from Charles’s dramatic TV confession of adultery.

APRIL 25: Appeared with Harry at the Lakers basketball game surrounded by co-workers in a highly orchestrated public appearance that dismissed any rumors that the Sussexes were leading increasingly separate lives, but then rejected her husband’s attempt at cheap public expression of affection as she was filmed on the famous kiss cam.

On April 25, she appeared at the Lakers basketball game (pictured) with Harry, surrounded by colleagues at work, in a highly orchestrated public appearance debunking all rumors that the Sussexes were leading increasingly separate lives.

DIANA DID IT TOO: In February 1992, when she turned her cheek when her then-husband tried to kiss her after an awkward award ceremony at the polo 24 hours before Valentine’s Day, sparked intense speculation about the by then failed royal wedding.

APRIL 27: Make a major announcement about a Hollywood super agent contract in a pre-orchestrated publicity push released directly to entertainment bible Variety to make maximum waves.

DIANA DID IT TOO: In November 1994, the Princess used the media to announce a partial return to working life through the Red Cross after taking a year off after discovering that her husband Charles had vetoed a role as itinerant ambassador for the UK, so she didn’t. not draw the attention of his charitable projects.

Now, of course, Meghan is her own wife who is no longer part of the royal family and doesn’t have to coordinate her media activities, something she hated to do with passion while part of the Buckingham Palace lineup.

But it is no coincidence that this trio of major interventions took place just a week before the coronation of King Charles III, the most important day in the life of her father-in-law.

It seems that Meghan strategically timed her near-total disappearance from the spotlight over four months — a lifetime in California terms — to make maximum impact as she emerged at this critical moment.

Even the Sussex Squad has to admit there was absolutely no reason why any of these three PR events had to take place this past week.

And there’s no question that Meghan would have been well aware of the attention she’d be getting by going public after such a long hibernation just before an important moment for the British monarchy.

But we are now wise with Meghan’s games.

This is nothing short of a desperate and shameless attempt to get the attention of the new king during his coronation week, because she is, I believe, jealous that she won’t be a part of it.

Meghan’s three-step “how-to-get-everyone-talk-about-me-again” campaign mirrored that of Princess Diana in 1994. The late Princess of Wales is pictured in 1992 with her Prince Harry

After deciding it was just too risky to join her husband at the coronation, given the likelihood that she would be booed by the Royalist mob in London this Saturday, there was no chance for Meghan to resurface through the first coronation in 70 years. as she may have initially planned.

So now she’s doing it her own way: Guerrilla style.

Meghan seems oblivious to the fact that the public has now understood her game plan, with any stunt to make money or steal attention further sinking her popularity on both sides of the Atlantic.

A Daily Mail poll today showed just how bad things have gotten in Britain, with Harry and Meghan having approval ratings of just 22 per cent and 18 per cent respectively, leaving only Prince Andrew less loved.

Adding to their predicament, only a third of the population believes the couple’s wild allegations against the royal family.

“Her behavior over the past week, seemingly designed to distract attention from the coronation thanks to her ‘Me Me Meghan’ Hollywood sideshow, is not the behavior of an icon, but of a fallen star,” writes Dan Wootton (pictured). )

But Meghan seems to have no idea that her PR campaign over the past week is another major own cause.

No wonder she gets through advisors as quickly as eco-hypocrite Harry hires new private jets.

Imagine if Archewell’s hapless servant were sent to Montecito’s dungeon of love to beg, “Shall we put all this off for two weeks to give the king the moment he’s been waiting unchallenged for seven decades?” After all, the dude walked you down the aisle? He certainly deserves that.’

Such truth tellers in the world of the Sussexes are sent away with brutal speed and if you live in a job of yes people that’s why these mistakes keep happening.

Of course, the Markle family themselves have contributed to the distraction this week, with her dear father Thomas – a decent man – turning up for the first time in a year since a near-fatal stroke to beg his daughter for another chance in a heartbreaking Australian TV special.

Again, I only blame Meghan for this kind of intervention.

She brutally exorcised her family from her life out of shame in one of the most brutal acts I can remember of a public figure, especially considering Emmy-winning Hollywood lighting director Thomas who raised her for much of her childhood and teenage years.

Why would he leave quietly now?

Meghan is the only person who could stop this sideshow by doing the decent thing and reuniting with the person who gave her all the tools she needed to become a Hollywood actress, before it’s too late.

Instead, she will continue to convince herself that her father is persona non grata even though he lives a few hours down Mexico’s Pacific Coast Highway, plotting her next PR stunt.

Meghan’s performances are nothing short of a desperate and shameless attempt to grab the attention of the new king in his coronation week. King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla were pictured together last month

Having jettisoned much of her original and loyal team, she is now surrounded by the biggest beasts in Hollywood at the WME agency, including original star creator Ari Emanuel herself.

The Variety piece announcing her deal trumpeted, “Meghan is a global icon.”

Maybe she is to Hollywood woktopians.

But her behavior over the past week, ostensibly designed to deliberately distract attention from the coronation thanks to her “Me Me Meghan” Hollywood sideshow, is not the behavior of an icon, but of a fallen star.

A fallen star who had the potential to change the world from within the British royal family, but let her outsized ego ruin everything.

We can’t ignore her embarrassing PR stunts, but at least we can now see through them and chuckle.
