Dan Walker says his body “still hurts” but he has managed to eat his first solid food since his near-fatal accident.
The 45-year-old Channel 5 news presenter was struck by a car while cycling in Sheffield in a horrifying accident on Monday morning and suffered serious injuries but was “glad to be alive”.
Dan was left unconscious for 20 minutes as emergency services rushed to the junction of Moore Street and Hanover Way, where the roundabout is a notorious accident blackspot.

He wrote on Twitter Thursday: ‘Winnie hasn’t left my side this week. She is the best.

Seeing the funny side, Dan tweeted: ‘I’ve had some lovely messages this week. I enjoyed this one from Richard Curtis’.
It comes after the former BBC Breakfast presenter admitted that his helmet had saved his life.
The star also recounted how he couldn’t sleep after being pumped full of painkillers.

Luck: Dan was left battered and bruised with a bloody face after the incident, and was lucky to avoid fractures.
Earlier this week, she wrote on her Instagram Stories: “I can’t sleep… I think too many drugs.”

‘If my eyes weren’t so swollen, I might have a little cry (sic)’

South Yorkshire Police, who are investigating the crash, said no arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
He wrote on Instagram hours after the incident: ‘Little accident this morning.
Glad to be alive after getting hit by a car on my bike. The face is a mess, but I don’t think anything is broken. Thanks to Shaun and Jamie for sorting me out and the lovely policeman on the scene.
‘This is my smiling Grateful for our NHS (sic)’.
He also tweeted a selfie of his swollen face and bloody shirt from the back of an ambulance.
He later wrote on social media: “I think I got hit by a car, but I was unconscious for about 20 minutes.” I have no recollection of that.
I can’t believe I didn’t break anything or that it’s much worse. I got to the track with paramedics and police officers standing over me. I am very grateful to still be here and have a huge headache.
Dan has hosted BBC Breakfast since 2016 and took part in the 2021 series of Strictly Come Dancing, revealing that he signed up for the show to do something ‘fun’ and have a laugh after reporting on difficult news during the pandemic.
He also presented Football Focus for 12 years, along with regular appearances at Match of the Day, the Grand National, Royal Ascot and the NFL Show.
Last year, she replaced Sian Williams as 5 News’ lead anchor after she announced she was stepping down in April last year.
