Dan Campbell sends Detroit Lions fans wild by comparing injury crisis to eating filet and moldy bread

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell sent fans into a frenzy late in the season with his response to the team’s injury crisis.

After reeling off eleven straight wins, Campbell’s side suffered a 48–42 loss to the Buffalo Bills, with player availability being a major factor.

The morning after his team went 12-2, Campbell spoke on the Costa & Jansen Show with an incredible assessment and analogy about their loss.

“You win 11 times in a row and then you lose and the sky falls,” Campbell said. “What happens is that you get used to eating fillet, and I’m talking about all of us, and everything is fine, life is good, and you forget what it was like when you had nothing and ate your damn shaped bread .’

“Sometimes you have to punch yourself in the mouth and remember what it was like to truly appreciate where you are, and we will do that,” he continued.

“We got a bad taste in our mouth, we got beat up the other day, we lost a couple of guys, and you know what, it’s exactly what we needed. So we’re going to bounce back, we’re going to respond. We have guys who are going to have an incredible opportunity here.”

Dan Campbell startled fans with his reaction after the Lions’ loss to the Buffalo Bills

“And no matter what, we’ll play the game we need to win. I don’t care. If we have to win by one point for the rest of the year, then that’s what we’re going to do and I’ll be happy with that.

The response left the hosts laughing at their producers as Campbell slipped in two f-bombs during his remarks. However, social media users showed appreciation for Campbell’s attitude and delivery.

“This interview with Dan Campbell makes me want to jump out of my car and run down the highway the rest of the way to work,” one user wrote. “If this guy isn’t good at anything else, he has a PhD in motivation. I love this man like I love my father.”

“Dan Campbell, I’m getting the whole city ready to run through walls this morning on @971theticketxyt,” another added. ‘Campbells doesn’t give up and neither do we. Buckle up, Detroit, the next few weeks are about to be a wild, wild ride.”

“Who needs coffee when Dan Campbell drops BARS in the morning?!?” a third agreed.

“Nothing makes me more excited to watch Detroit Lions football every week than Dan Campbell talking about his team. LFG @Leeuwen!!!!’ a fourth commented.

Although the Lions’ injury list was already stacked, they suffered another blow, with three key defensemen injured against Buffalo.

Ian Rapoport reported Monday that two of the three players are likely done for the season. Defensive lineman Alim McNeill suffered a torn ACL and cornerback Carlton Davis III broke his jaw during the game.

Davis will soon undergo surgery for his injury. However, Davis’ timeline suggests he will miss six weeks, which would align perfectly with the NFC title game on Jan. 26.

Additionally, Campbell revealed after the game that cornerback Khalil Dorsey suffered an ankle injury and will likely be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Another notable injury for the Lions occurred in Week 6 when defensive player Aidan Hutchinson broke his tibia and fibula. He was initially ruled out for the remainder of the season, but it has since been reported that he could return in the Super Bowl if the Lions qualify.

Campbell and Co. sit atop the NFC North with games against Chicago, San Francisco and Minnesota before the postseason.
