Damian Lewis is supported by girlfriend Alison Mosshart as he joins Elizabeth McGovern and Charles Dance for an intimate reading at The Josephine Hart Poetry Foundation

Damian Lewis was joined by girlfriend Alison Mosshart as he attended the Josephine Hart Poetry Foundation in London on Tuesday evening.

The actor and musician was on hand to read selected poems from the American Ambassadors Residence, where he was also joined by Downton Abbey star Elizabeth McGovern and film veteran Charles Dance.

The Poetry Foundation, established in memory of Hart, a writer, theater producer and broadcaster, following her death aged 69 in 2011, helps to develop arts, culture and education across the UK, with an emphasis on drama and poetry.

Poems by Elizabeth Bishop, Emily Dickinson, TS Eliot, Robert Frost and Robert Lowell were selected for Tuesday’s reading, with Lewis, 53, once again showing his support for the foundation by reading at the intimate gathering.

The actor, who will soon return to TV as Henry VIII in Wolf Hall: The Mirror And The Light, looked suitably smart in a gray two-piece suit and black leather boots.

Together with her boyfriend Mosshart. 45 – singer and guitarist of rock bands The Kills and Dead Weather – showed her support by wearing a sweater dedicated to poetry and musical collective The Last Poets.

Other guests on the evening included Good Omens actress Gloria Obianyo and Gangs Of London and Brassic star Parth Thakerar.

Lewis and Mosshart were first spotted together in the summer of 2022, after which the mother of the American musician Vivian gave the relationship her approval shortly afterwards.

She told MailOnline: ‘They have mutual friends. I don’t know exactly how they met, but I’m fine with it. If she is happy, we are happy too.’

The romance blossomed a year after Lewis’ wife of 14 years, Helen McCrory, tragically died following a secret battle with breast cancer.

The actor later revealed how his wife had urged him to find love again, telling him and their son and daughter that she wanted “daddy to have a lot of girlfriends.”

He added on social media: ‘She died as she lived. Fearless. God, we love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She shone so brightly. Now, Little One, take to the air.”

Last year, Lewis revealed a surprise career change to pursue his passion for music, releasing his debut album in June 2023.

The Homeland star recently revealed that he felt a sense of comfort when he released the album because it contained lyrics that paid tribute to his late wife.

McCrory passed away in April 2021 at the age of 52 after being diagnosed with cancer, and Damian was sure to pay tribute to the Peaky Blinders star in his music.

Lewis is currently touring the album and reflected on the writing process during an appearance on This Morning last month.
