Dame Kelly Holmes sports £20 towel dupe as Balenciaga is mocked for selling £695 skirt that looks like towel wrapped around waist
Dame Kelly Holmes has shown off a cheap dupe of Balenciaga’s £695 towel skirt live on air.
The British athlete, 53, modeled the £20 dupe on ITV’s Loose Women today – and according to host Christine Lampard it was a hit.
The luxury Spanish brand has come under fire after asking shoppers to come up with almost £700 for what appears to be a towel wrapped around the waist.
Unveiled as part of the Spring 2024 collection, Balenciaga’s version appears to be a beige, knee-length garment made from terry cotton towel material.
Earlier today, Kelly strolled out from behind stage curtains, wearing the beige standard ‘under £20’ take-home towel.

“If you want to come over here Kelly” Christine said. ‘Perfect!’ The host then paused as the audience erupted in laughter.
“This is our general towel version of Balenciaga, under £20,” she continued.
“Now we couldn’t afford the real one, so we did our best to recreate it.
“The real one, everyone is 100 percent cotton, and I guess that’s (the victim).”
Christine added that while Balenciaga’s original came in different sizes, the same could be achieved with your own towel by simply adjusting the fit.
The hilarious moment continued as Kelly spun around the stage and did her best to model the towel for the audience. Kelly then commented on how “cozy” the towel felt.
Fellow panellists said the towel looked ‘identical’ to the £695 twin, although the couture variety needed to be taken to the dry cleaners, rather than putting your towel in the washing machine with laundry.
They later agreed that “fashionistas” and A-listers like Kanye West wouldn’t be deterred by the price.

A similar looking towel has been spotted at Dunelm for £11 – £684 cheaper.
Ever since Balenciaga unveiled the unisex design, customers were quick to joke about the crazy design.
One person said: ‘Did Balenciaga just release a towel skirt?’
Someone else referred to the backlash it received last year for using children and bondage bears in an advertising campaign: “To dry themselves from washing away their sins?”
Another joked: “Look at how people are buying it.”
This was echoed by a fourth who said: ‘People are still going to buy it which is insane.’
One – called Dom – said: ‘I remain convinced that Balenciaga is a clever satire.
‘Subtly mocking individuals who blindly purchase products solely for their brand labels.’
