Perimenopause is the transition period before menopause, when women’s hormone levels begin to change, but before their periods have stopped for a full 12 months — thus reaching menopause. The NHS says perimenopause usually starts between 45 and 55.

During perimenopause, hormone levels change and the ovaries begin to produce fewer eggs. Symptoms may include hot flashes and night sweats, headache, dizziness, aches and pains, joint and muscle pain, and trouble sleeping.
