Dallas Cowboys fake-punt attempt hilariously fails as punter comes nowhere close to completing pass

The Dallas Cowboys tried to turn their fortunes around early in the third quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons to hilariously unsuccessful results, on the back of gambler Bryan Anger.

Trailing by four points and a punt from its own 38-yard line, Dallas decided to go for it on fourth-and-2.

Anger had thrown two career passes earlier in his NFL career. His last came in 2018 and his only league completion came in 2014.

That didn’t stop Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy from giving Anger the green light to throw the ball.

Anger’s pass was inaccurate, intended for cornerback C.J. Goodwin, causing his teammate to fall and nearly be intercepted by an Atlanta defender.

Why McCarthy chose that moment with 28 minutes to play to attempt a fake seems like terrible coaching in retrospect.

The Cowboys fell to 3-5 with the loss and would have been within striking distance of playoff positioning with a win.

It was one of several bad swings for Dallas on the day, with quarterback Dak Prescott also injured.

Prescott’s hamstring injury was followed by the old Cowboy being caught saying “We f***ing suck” on the sideline about his team.

Dallas is 3.5 games back from their archrival, the Washington Commanders, for first place in the NFC East.

The Cowboys likely won’t be favored in any of their next three games against the Eagles, Texans or Commanders.
