Dakota Johnson gives Madame Web vibes in thin sunglasses as she tries to move on from that box office disaster while filming new movie Materialist in NYC

Dakota Johnson seemed to channel her Madame Web character this week — despite bashing the movie.

The star, whose mother is Melanie Griffith, was working on her next project, Materialist, in New York City.

The 34-year-old actress wore rectangular sunglasses with dark lenses and thin silver-colored frames.

With her dark, straight hair styled into her signature bangs, the locks fell around her face and across her chest.

And just as she did in her Cassandra Webb persona, Johnson wore small silver hoop earrings.

It comes after Dakota upset her Sony production team when she made disparaging comments about the superhero film’s lackluster performance.

Speak with Rush earlier this year, the silver screen siren said she wasn’t surprised her latest film bombed at the box office.

“Unfortunately, I’m not surprised this happened this way,” she said.

‘But it was definitely an experience for me to make that film. I had never done anything like this before. I’ll probably never do something like that again, because I don’t feel like being in that world. And I know that now.’

She continued, “Sometimes in this industry you sign up for something, and it’s one thing, and then when you make it, it becomes something completely different, and you’re like, ‘Wait, what?’

“But it was a real learning experience, and of course it’s not fun to be part of something that’s torn to shreds, but I can’t say I don’t understand it.”

The $80 million production was condemned by critics and viewers alike after its release on Valentine’s Day.

By early March, it had grossed a paltry $40 million at the domestic box office, taking in just $15.1 million in its opening weekend.

“Many people at Sony doubt her star power, and how she responded to this failure will likely come back to haunt her,” an insider told DailyMail.com.

Dakota continued in her rant, “It’s so hard to get movies made, and in these big movies that are being made – and it’s even starting to happen with the little ones, which really scares me – decisions are made by committees, and art does not do well if it is made by committee.

‘Films are made by a filmmaker and a team of artists around them. You can’t create art based on numbers and algorithms. I have long felt that the public is extremely smart, and executives have come to believe that this is not the case.

‘The public will always be able to sniff out bulls**t. Even if films are made with AI, people will no longer want to see them.’

While filming on Monday, the artist wore light wash jeans, black loafers and a dark blouse.

She rolled up the sleeves and partially buttoned her shirt, leaving the top open to reveal a ribbed black tank top.

The actress later shed the layers and swapped them for a white tank top that she tucked into her jeans.
