Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey (Skywalker) in a new Star Wars film set more than a decade after the events of Lucasfilm’s sequel trilogy. The new, post-Episode IX The Star Wars movie is set in an unexplored era called the New Jedi Order, and Rey is tasked with rebuilding the nearly extinct Jedi.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy unveiled the new Star Wars movie — one of three newly announced Star Wars theatrical projects — at Star Wars Celebration 2023 in London on Friday. Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is directing the sequel Rise of Skywalkerbased on a script by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders). Obaid-Chinoy was previously attached to direct a script from screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, but those two left the project earlier this year.
Details on the first movie from Star Wars’ New Jedi Order era are sparse, but it’s rumored that Rey will establish a new Jedi Academy and train a group of new recruits in the film; Lucasfilm has not announced a release date or additional casting beyond Ridley.
