Daisy scored her breakthrough role in 2022, playing the lead role of Marianne in Sally Rooney’s Normal People opposite Paul Mescal as Connell.
Released on BBC Three in 2020, the romantic drama focused on the on-again, off-again relationship between Irish teenagers Marianne and Connell, from their school days to their time at university.
It comes after she previously revealed that her mother didn’t want her to be an actress.
The actress – born and raised in Muswell Hill, North London – told her parents that she wanted to pursue an acting career at the age of 15.
Daisy’s parents, Wendy and Philip, both worked in television (her mother was an editor; her father is now the head of Sky Arts).
Speaking about being an only child, she told Elle UK: ‘We get a hard rap, but being an only child was amazing. I am very good at making friends.
“I remember going on vacation as a kid, seeing kids playing in the pool, and having to go up and ask, ‘Can I play?’ It was a good life lesson.’
When she was 15, her mother suggested to Daisy that she audition for the National Youth Theater after saying she wanted to be an actor.
She added, “I think she was hoping I wouldn’t get into it. Not in a mean way – just because it’s a really tough job.”
She went on to talk about her career now and resilience in the industry, “As an actor, you have to be resilient.
“When I have a bad day at work, many people judge it and I have to live with it forever. But I still have to make courageous choices for a chance to make something remarkable.”
Daisy split with boyfriend Tom Varey last year after two years of dating, with reports saying she wanted to focus on her career.
A source speaking to The Sun claimed: ‘They got on really well during the lockdown last year, but they are both young and passionate about pursuing their careers.

And it seems she wasn’t wrong, as the actress starred in this year’s hit Where The Crawdads Sing and has just been cast as lead actress Carole King in the film adaptation of the show Beautiful.
Beautiful: The Carole King Musical ran on Broadway for five years and played 2,418 performances. The show earned Jessie Mueller a Tony Award for her starring role as King.
In an interview with Variety, King spoke highly of Jones: “Daisy has a spirit and energy that I recognized as myself when I was younger. She’s a huge talent and I know she’s going to give a great performance.’
