how we test

We wanted to test if a robot vacuum cleaned as well as a cordless or stick vacuum. To do this, we let the Proscenic 850T loose in each room of the house, to test how well it mapped each room and searched under the nooks and crannies, following up with a hand vac to see if that sucked up anything extra.

Writer Zoe Griffin tests the Proscenic 850T robot vacuum and mop on hardwood floors, as well as vinyl tile and carpet

We tested it on hardwood floors in the hallway and living room, as well as vinyl in the kitchen and on the carpeting above. To test its ability to avoid stairs, we tested it on the landing and kept a close eye on it, just in case we were to catch it in a fall.

Setting

When you open the box, you will see the main unit of the vacuum, a charging base, spare mop attachments, a remote control and a booklet on how to connect the vacuum to my home WiFi via the Proscenic Home app.

If you’re worried about WiFi networks and passwords, you’ll be happy to know that you can easily control the vacuum via the remote control.

The Proscenic 850T cleaning robot can be operated via remote control, via the Proscenic app, or directly via Alexa devices (once linked via the app)

But if you want to set timers, schedule cleanings, map a room, and other smart features, it’s easy to connect the Vacuum cleaner robotma the application by following the step-by-step instructions. Reaching full connectivity through the app took me less than five minutes.

One more step is to connect it to Amazon devices like Echo dot speakers or the Amazon Alexa app on a smartphone. Doing this is a bit trickier as you need to download the Alexa app and check the Alexa icon in the Proscenic app to link accounts. For me, that was not a perfect process, but it was worth doing as my son was thrilled when I finally made it work using just the power of my voice.

Design

the Proscenic 850T robot vacuum cleaner it is aesthetically pleasing given the entry price level.

Two rotating brushes push messes under the path of the vacuum where it can be sucked up and one tester found the suction power to be impressive given the price.

Sleek and black, the circular robot moves stealthily around a room, gently turning when it senses something in its path. He was fascinated by how it moved, rotating a small number of degrees to change its path if necessary.

At just three inches tall, it easily fits under sofas, chairs, beds, and other furniture and even pops back out.

How well does it clean?

In open spaces, this vacuum cleaner works without fail. After leaving some cake crumbs on the floor, I watched as the Proscenic 850T it gobbled up everything in sight.

It’s amazing to watch it slide under furniture, knowing that getting to those places with my stick vacuum is often a pain in the ass.

Vacuuming under sofas and chairs can be an energy-consuming process with a traditional vacuum, but the 850T robot vacuum makes light work of it, standing just 7cm tall.

It works great on hair and makes the rugs in my daughters room cleaner than ever. Other vacuums have previously had trouble picking up long hair that girls seem to lose.

It did its best to get into the corners, but I have to admit, I finished the job with my trusty upright vacuum attachments.

It was also too narrow for my stairs. That being said, I was very impressed to see him on the landing as he approached the edge of the flight of stairs, but I always felt that he was heading towards a drop and changing direction.

How well does it scrub?

the Proscenic 850T It has three adjustable mopping levels, equipped with an electronically controlled water pump, so you can control the water level with the app.

According to the product description on Amazon, it can mop and vacuum at the same time. To test this, I dropped some cereal and milk.

It did a better job vacuuming up the cereal than cleaning up the milk. I didn’t feel like the milk had thinned, even on the highest setting.

If you’re looking for a mop and vacuum in one, you may get better mop functionality by opting for a more expensive vacuum. But when it comes to vacuuming up dirt, crumbs, and debris from a home with toddlers, babies, and busy people, it’s more than enough.

The Proscenic 850T vacuum cleaner offers fantastic suction, rivaling appliances that cost twice as much. It’s easy to set up and incredibly fun to run and watch it clean a room. I’m pleasantly surprised that it offers features like voice command via Alexa for less than $150. Although it could improve its cleaning ability, this is more than enough if you’re looking for an entry-level robot vacuum.

Pros: Strong suction, smart maneuvering, quiet long battery life, voice operation via Alexa

Cons: Unimpressive mopping performance, can’t vacuum stairs, won’t fit into corners
