DC United announced the suspension of Swedish-born defender Mohanad Jeahze Monday afternoon, following his arrest Saturday.
The 26-year-old Iraqi national team player was on club-approved leave in his native country before being arrested at a hotel in central Stockholm, according to a Swedish outlet. Days Nyheter.
According to court records quoted by Washington Post insider Steven Goff, Jeahze was arrested on Saturday in connection with an alleged incident, as well as another in December.
According to The Post, he has not been charged, but will currently remain in custody until May 8 during the ongoing investigation. The court reportedly said he will not be released because of “the risk that the suspect will avoid prosecution or punishment” and “could continue his criminal activities.”
The MLS capital club released a statement saying; DC United have been informed that defender Mohanad Jeahze was arrested on Saturday on charges of assault while in Sweden on an approved leave of absence from the club.

Jeahze has been suspended pending an investigation by Major League Soccer and Swedish authorities.
DC United will remain in close contact with Major League Soccer, the MLS Players Association and Swedish authorities during the investigation. No further comment will be made by the club or the League at this time.’
Jeahze made six appearances for DC United since signing a three-year contract with the club on 7 December 2022. There is an option for a fourth year in the contract.
His final appearance for the Black-and-Red came in the 1–0 win in Montreal on April 16.
Naturally, Jeahze was not in the squad for the team’s sensational 3-1 victory over Orlando City on Sunday.
He was taken over from the Swedish top club Hammarby IF, where the Swedish youth representative has played since 2020.
Despite being born and raised in Sweden, Jeahze chose to pledge allegiance to the Iraq national team in 2020. His family is from the city of Samawah, 280 kilometers southeast of Baghdad.
Jeahze has represented Iraq four times, his most recent coming on February 1, 2022.
Wayne Rooney’s team currently ranks ninth out of 15 teams in the Eastern Conference standings, with 11 points after nine games.
