He was arrested after being found in possession of a stolen 2014 Mercedes Benz during a July 14, 2022, memorial service for an aspiring rapper named Ethan Reyes, who was fatally stabbed days earlier.
Dex was arrested while sitting in the idling vehicle that was double-parked at the intersection of 140th Street and Broadway, the New York Post reported.
Prosecutors in the case said Dex told police officers when questioned about the vehicle, “You probably know who I am.”
Dex entered a guilty plea to disorderly conduct with no jail time in connection with the incident.
As a condition of his plea deal, Dex was ordered by the Manhattan Criminal Court to avoid further trouble for a year; and performing a community service order that lasted five days. According to the newspaper, he faces up to a year in prison if convicted.
After the October 2022 court hearing, Dex was seen smoking marijuana (which is legal in New York City) with friends as he boarded an SUV parked outside the courthouse.

In a post to Instagram Stories that day, Dex posted an image of a smoke-filled vehicle with the caption, “Court.”
Dex, who has collaborated with rapper G-Eazy in the past, told the Post at the time that he and his famous mother had collaborated on musical material.
“My mom and I have a few songs that we recorded,” he says the newspaper said at the timeadding that the end of the earlier case was “absolutely a blessing” for him.
Lauper told me last year Vanity fair that Dex’s musical tastes tended to be “more underground,” adding, “He’s on SoundCloud and he’s a great artist.”
In the chat, Lauper talked about the balance between parenting and her career.
“People said I was so career-driven, but once the child came I looked at how I could support everything: making a record, going on tour – and my husband said, ‘Go to Europe, I’ve got him,’” she said. ‘I sometimes took my son on tour, but he needed his own space.’
