They say dogs are man’s best friend and that even seems to be true for police dogs after a police officer was filmed happily playing with a sniffer K9 outside an Australian airport.
In a video uploaded to TikTok by Sarah Jeanette, the officer playfully swings his police dog around with a toy in its mouth as the dog wags its tail exuberantly.
The heartwarming clip was shot outside Cairns Airport in northern Queensland, where the dogs of the tracking unit are regulars as they are trained on the spot.
The airport has a purpose-built dog training center, home to the Australian Federal Police’s dog team that conducts bomb assessments and drug screening.
The K9 kennel facility has been at the airport for ten years and includes a veterinary doctor’s office, kennels, and a large exercise and training room.

Commentators on the video said they often see the police dogs playing with their handlers and being treated like royalty at the airport.
“I have to say after working at Cairns Airport these dogs are treated to this every day and it is such a beautiful moment to see them so happy,” commented one user.
“I have seen this good boy inspecting bags at Cairns Airport, he is such a good dog and keeps our city safe,” wrote a second.
“Just two good guys having fun,” said a third.
Many commenters credited the dog in the video as Lido, a six-year-old dog who was selected for the role when he was just a one-year-old pup.
Lido is one of more than 40 AFP dogs across Australia tasked with detecting contraband.
