Customers call Wendy’s $14 Spongebob Krabby Patty meal a ‘scam’ after collab’s disappointing debut

SpongeBob fans aren’t impressed with Wendy’s new take on the Krabby Patty — some are calling the $14 meal a “scam.”

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the popular cartoon, the fast-food restaurant teamed up with Paramount to launch the highly anticipated “Wendy’s Krabby Patty Kollab” meal.

On October 8, the first SpongeBob-inspired burger was prepared and customers eagerly lined up to order.

But when some people finally got the chance to taste the meal, which consisted of a cheeseburger, a side of fries and a “Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty,” they were deeply disappointed.

In a video that has been viewed more than 2.4 million times, TikTok user Noah gave his cheeky opinion on the collaboration.

“We’re getting totally ripped off with this Krabby Meal s***,” Noah said.

Text appeared above the video saying, “Don’t buy a krabby patty meal, it’s a scam.”

Noah initially focused his criticism on the Krabby Patty itself, saying it was just a “Dave’s Double with some Big Mac sauce.”

According to Wendy’s, there are some differences between their SpongBob-themed burger and a Dave’s Double.

But the slippery distinction ultimately comes down to the number of slices of cheese, the types of sauces used and the amount of meat.

Noah was briefly disappointed with Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty.

“This icy drink is horrible,” the TikToker said as he stirred the drink’s syrupy yellowish substance.

“Mine was crazy watery and all they did was take an ice cold vanilla and stick some pineapple juice on the bottom.”

According to Wendy’s website, Noah wasn’t far off the mark. The Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty is indeed made from the vanilla frosty and ‘Pineapple Mango-flavored puree swirl.’

The fast-food restaurant called this combination a “first-of-its-kind Frosty flavor innovation.”

Noah continued to throw away his meal, telling viewers that “of course his fries were cold.”

“There’s nothing cool in this meal. There’s no special box,” he said, showing the normal Wendy’s bag to the camera.

“They cheated us out of $14,” Noah said as he tossed the meal in the trash.

“Wendy’s, I’m disappointed,” he said at the end. “What the hell is this?”

In the comments section, viewers commiserated with each other about their disappointing experiences.

“They burned my shake,” said one user.

“I got a Krabby Patty meal for all four of my family members so we’re talking almost $50 for a meal,” someone else wrote, before adding, “It was so disappointing.”

Other viewers defended Wendy’s and attributed Noah’s disappointing experience to the specific location he visited.

“I think packaging wise it depends on which location you go to because my brother just sent me a picture of the whole meal and it came in a nice box and cool packaging,” one person commented.

In their press release, the fast food company said, “In a world where people cut corners, Wendy’s is known for quality in everything we do.

“So it makes sense that two of the most iconic squares in pop culture are teaming up to bring a taste of this unique, limited-time experience to life for fans of all ages!”
